Savage Garden has a song called: "I believe"

A line in the song suggests that we tend to put our happiness in someone else's hands.

I LOVE that reminder. Happiness should not depend on others, or on our circumstances, but on our attitude.

It's said life is 10% circumstances, 90% attitude.

Whatcha think? Are you guilty of letting others or your circumstances dictate your joy? Just throwin' it out there ...

i know all that but i'm truely more happy having someone to cuddle with,to make a warm meal for,to see how their time apart from me was,to plan a future with, and hopefully to grow old with even though i don't want to be old

I do but have been working on to do what makes me happy and the rest can either fall in place or by the way side...if you can't make yourself happy then you truly make anybody in your life happy either...that's my opinion!!!

i can understand not putting your happiness in someone else's hands but as far as circumstances no matter how hard one may try if bad things happen to you it is sure gonna make it hard to be happy ..maybe im not getting that part of it but if i lost my son in an accident i dont see myself being happy or if my house was hit by a tornado and i had no insurance there again not happy of course i could probably go on for days with different scenarios that would make me unhappy ..but like i said maybe im not getting the point of the circumstances..

Oh I agree its .. I don't wanna be old either. But it's inevitable. But here's the spin on it. You have to grow old, but you don't have to grow up laugh laugh laugh laugh

My kids say they are going to write on my headstone someday: 'she never grew up' ....

Bring it on !!

I have never considered it the other person to make me happy,
its up to me to make my own happiness and the other person is there to share it with you but in no way do I see it as ever putting my happiness in the other persons hands to set my mood

No one said it wasn't hard to do .. but we have choices in life babe. And if you allow what's around you to determine YOUR mindset then you've already lost.

I think part of the challenge is won when we see that no matter where we are on the 'life chain' there are those above us yes .. but also below us. That said there is ALWAYS someone who has less than me ... less $$, less job opportunities, less wonderful family, less health, less spiritual connection, less friends.

Well you get the picture. ie, more hurt.

If we let it get us down then we are giving the power to the circumstances, just like we'd give the power to another human being ..ohwell

I've been guilty of this particular failing in the past.
I like to think I've learned my lesson, but I'd probably fall into the same trap again ohwell

I can always find a way that a situation could be worse.
This helps me feeel better about the situation.
I learned to be accountable for my feelings & not blame situations or other people.
Experts say "when you get mad, you give control of you to who or whatever your mad at."
I decide to never be mad again, I want to be in control of me.
Even my kids now say,"What did you do with my dad?"
I just stay a nice person, controling MY happiness.

Oh I agree Pete. And I've done it before too. I find lovers especially can do that to ya.

It's hard not to be affected by the ups and downs in relationships, or just not HAVING a relationship like tina said. But I want the power, not give it to someone, anyone .. else. frown

there's a proverb that says ...

A man who can not control his temper is like a city without walls.

Your quote above about being mad reminds me of it.

But I don't have to apply that with Road Rage right ..........

cuz it's soooooooooooooo d*mn fun! laugh laugh laugh

you'd be surprised at the joy that can be found in even
undesirable circumstances.
but you have to teach yourself to see that way.
that is part of happiness, and you are the one in
control of that

I think if you're depending solely on someone else to make you happy, you've got some issues.

Oh I was pretty much jokin Hunter. I mean I won't say I don't weave some. But that's what sports cars are for, yanno.

I do NOT however, take my life (or my children's) in my hands and do stupid driving. NEVAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

And I may hate SUV's and get up in their arse cuz they think they own the road, but DUDE I'd bow to your kind. flowerforyou

Nice way to put it Chuck. It's like when people think a 'significant other' is their 'all' ..

I already have my cake made. In my world, they are the frosting. love
