When this body is weary and so tired
I lay upon my bed closing my eyes
And in the darkness they come unbidden
Melding, molding, twittering and twirling
Words dancing about in my mind
Trying to rhyme
Scampering,running, jumping about
Like mischievous children
I reach for the cat
Stroking her black fur
Gleaming in the blue light of the clock
As the minutes quickly tick tock
Away away away
I clamp my hands over my ears
Howling and growling at them
To cease and desist
And still they come creeping and crawling
On the mist
Until I rise from the bed
Walking slowly to the desk
Picking up my pen
And they tumble and fall
As if caught in a waterfall
Falling from my head
My body weary and tired
My mind sharp as a blade
The words coming and coming
No end in sight
Finally just giving in
Not putting up a fight
