i gotta say what i gotta say.....

rating profiles, i have nothing against them for those that are new and curious what they could do to improve their profile for better exposure or whatever.

i hate the am i hot or cute crap! 9 times out of 10, you go look and there are some sort of provacative pics showing lord knows what and nothing written about them. if you want a man or woman to judge you based on looks, you are an idiot! beauty fades my darlings....your soul lives forever. people doing this are attention hogs....get over your self! then, i really love when they post in their thread how hot they really think they are...if you think so, why fricken ask?

I just saw that section. I think it's harilious!!!! I really don't care what anybody thinks about my profile. It is short and simple! Besides, this is cyber world and nothing in anybody's profile is really going to tell you anything other that what someone wants you to know. Live and in person is the only way to actually know someone!

I dunno I'm not the greatest communicator in the world but, I have the good sense to realize that not everyone can be a hot model and not everyone can be the star quarterback. I take in the sensible parts of a profile and the parts that boast I simply filter, actions and visual speak louder than words.

Those type of profile are soooooooo narcissistic. Makes me think that no one could ever like/care/love them as much as they love themselves. And all the BS spouted in the profiles. Why say you are open minded and want to make friends with anyone then ignore a request to be just that? To me, open minded is willing to be friends with anyone. Of course in a relationship it means an entirely different thing, but that is not the point. I have chatted and emailed people of all ages and sizes. THAT, to me, is what being open minded means... not closing the door on anyone until they get out of line.

I think some of it has to do with people's perceptions of dating sites, per se.

With most sites, all you have to go by is a handful of pics and a profile that's less interesting than the expiration date on the Pop-Tarts box. People get into a mindset where they make snap judgments on what's "hot" or "cute" and go from there. Or don't -- as the case may be. But there's no on-site way to get to know anybody.

So they find JSH amd they are still in that "quickie" mindset. It takes awhile to assimilate that we have forums, and that the forums create an option for interaction which is less superficiality-based.

Still, the "quick fix," need-to-be-noticed mentality prevails for many. Maybe "Rate My Profile" is a way for them to get some immediate attention, while at the same time getting comfortable with the forum format.

I don't know. I understand why the forum was created. It wouldn't have been my first choice for a new forum, but I can see why the bosses thought it had more potential than a Science or Philosophy or Literature forum. JSH is a dating site, and rating people is more thematically linked to dating, than are Science and Philosophy and Literature. Sad to say....!

I do think some will use it for attention-whorism, but they were doing a fair amount of that before Rate My Profile was ever created, anyway.

Personally, I see some potential for both good and bad here -- pretty much like everything else in the world. It all comes down to how it's used, and what people get from it. Let's see what happens.

good points lex...and yeah i think its legit when people are truly asking what to do with their profiles that dont understand it...its the attention sluts that get me...oh well...got em in every crowd i guess
