when my children were very young i wanted to give them a christmas present that was not bought from a store and one that would last forever. as i sat there thinking, i saw a ring box. this gave me the idea. i went to the jewelry store and got two boxes. inside the box i put a letter. it has been a long time and i don't remember the words exactly but this will give you an idea. A BOX OF NEVER ENDING LOVE. this is a box of never ending love. when you are lonely, when you are sad, when you are sick,when you are weak or when you are lost, open this box and take from me the friendship, the happiness, the health, the strength and the directions home. use this as often as you want for this is a never ending box of love from me to you.
that was 30 years ago. both daughters still have their boxes and said they have used them. they keep them on their dresser always

I have something similar that my son made in school when he was nine. It is a small block of wood (2"x2"), painted green, and wrapped with curling ribbon so that it looks like a gift. Attached is a card that says:

This is a very special gift
That you can never see
The reason it's so special is
It's just for you from me

Whenever you are lonely
Or even feeling blue
You only have to hold this gift
And know I think of you

You never can unwrap it
Please leave the ribbon tied
Just hold the box close to your heart
It's filled with love inside
-- signed with his name in a childish scrawl

I still have this sitting on my dresser after 10 years, and pick it up often.

I have done about the same as you Tony, but mine was for them to know THEY could do antything in this world if THEY believed it hard enough!! And true HEART, last forever..
