Topic: If you could submit one law

to be drawn up as a bill and considered for federal code of your country, what ONE law would you recommend be enstated?

Remember, it is your law, so you must also consider what consequences breaking that law would entail.

NOW THIS IS DISCUSSION. So there WILL be attacks, but please, make them against the law with logic and not against the petitioner.

BY THE WAY: this is posted in the religion thread for several reasons. 1. I'm sure there will be religion related laws
2. This is philisophical discussion, of which the religion topics is our only philisophical choice.
3. As with religion, I'm sure science will enter the equation at some point, and science is an extention of both philosophy and theology.

Fially, US elections are on the horizon - good discussion!

what one law would I have presented for enstatement on the federal level? Very easy.

ALL highschool graduates (discluding those physically/mentally incapable) MUST either go into college within the year and continue through to get their associates degree, OR go into the military for a minimum of four years.

One law for me that is easy. It is a biblical law that would solve alot of problems. If someone accused you of a crime and it was found out they were lying then the accuser would get the punishment that the accused would of got if guilty. I believe alot of spite accussations would be fixed. Thier are a few others but that would be my 1st law enacted. Blessings of Shalom....Miles

With the exception of death, I have to agree that would be a great law to have. Sorry but I dont believe in the death penalty for any reason.

Treat everyone the way you would wish to be treated.

That would be an extremely difficult law to enforce. How could you know how someone would wish to be treated.

Let's say that a man is running around shooting people. You say, "Hey! You're breaking the law!"

The guy yells back, "No I'm not! I want to die and I'm too cowardly to shoot myself so I want someone else to shoot me. So I'm just going around doing to others what I want them to do to me!"

Seriously. Think about it!

What if the government decides that the best philosophy is the philosophy of Christianity?

Then what?

To the OP,…

I can’t think of any law I would be interesting in implementing.

To me, laws aren’t the way to encourage people to live good lives.

Laws are only for protection from each other (or at least that’s what they are supposed to be).

The main thing that I would like to be protected against is the laws themselves! laugh

Seriously, in my life, unnecessarily ordinances and legal technicalities are my biggest financial burden. They also prevent me from living life as freely as I would like to live it. If I want to add an addition onto my home, garage, or woodshop it’s going to cost me in taxes and building permits, and possible other costs when the building inspectors come around.

If I could make a law I would make a law that there shall be no such thing a property tax!

Seriously, I would! I don’t believe in property tax. I believe in income tax. You pay money for having made money. Why should you have to pay the government for living on the land when you might even be unemployed!!!

So yes, that would be my law. “NO PROPERTY TAXES!!!”

I could do away with mandatory car insurance too! I’m 58 years old, I’ve been driving since I was a teenager. I have never had an accident in my entire life that required an insurance payment!

Why should I have to be paying car insurance! I don’t crash into people! And if I ever did have an accident I’d be willing to deal with whatever financial cost were involved then. Chances are it wouldn’t be my fault anyway! That might sound a bit arrogant, but I genuinely am a very safe and defensive driver! And I don’t drive that much to begin with!

So yes, “NO MANDATORY CAR INSURANCE EITHER!!!”

mad  explode grumble

When I read this I couldn't help but envision an infinite line of Christian preachers on death row waiting to be executed, with angry atheists on the sidelines yelling at them for having psychologically damaged their children by telling them that they are all inherently evil sinners.

That is an oxymoron if I have ever heard one... The philosophy of Christianity? laugh

Philosophy deals with logic... philosophy of religion should keep the personification of God a non topic. It does not hold logical water. When done well there is no judgemental God.

Philosophy deals with logic...

So in other words, you want 1st graders to be taking a course on the philosophy of philosophy?

I've heard of head-start programs but this one takes the cake. laugh

Actually, Michael, I understand your ideal here and I do agree with you.

Although implementing it in the first grade might be a bit overly ambitious. flowerforyou

Hurting a child. I am not for. But I also am not for the child running the parents either. This is what we have today. Our teachers and school councelors have become the hidden police. They take your child in and ask all kinds of questions that your child may not have any idea what is going on. They can twist words to your child tell your child this is what is best for your parent when the truth is they may end up in foster care. I do not believe any parent conquinsually wants to hurt thier child. I do believe many of these teachers and councelors know exactly what they are doing and also know it will look good on thier record when it comes to promotions. Spiritually speaking this is called witchcraft. Yahweh says do not suffer a witch to live. Life was not all the trouble it is now 50 years ago because of our phycology being the infinite truth of reality. It is not it is mind playing in alot of cases....Blessings...Miles

Should not be taught in schools......to many diverse cultures at least here in Los Angeles.

Well, I'd certainly go as low as the 5th grade. Possible even the 4th in some preliminary introductory form. But much before that would probably be a bit futile.
