im trying to let go of the bitterness and forgive. not for him, for me. if i dont, he wins, he still has control over my heart. its been a real issue for me especially with me trying to get back out into the dating scene...guess thats why i asked for support on the matter.

Your attitude is very commendable. I was in a relationship where the woman was severely abused in the past. She would not let go of her anger and it cost both of us a very loving and tender relationship.

If you are a victim of violence in a relationship, my heart goes out to you. Please seek help if you can't find a way to cope with the pain.

thank you. yes, i have to get beyond the bitterness and not allow him to control my heart. he does if i dont get past it. forgiveness is more for me than for him.

Yep went through 6 years of physical and emotional abuse from the man I currently live with. We married in 93, divorced in 99. Between then and 04 he spent 6 months in jail. My house was condemned and he had just been released, we both needed somewhere to live and here we are..been here 4 years strictly as roomates. He taught me how to stand up for myself. No other man has ever laid a hand on me. One tried and I hit him square in the jaw. The ex/current roomate tried it twice since we started this situation. The first time I bowed up and threatened him, the second time I called the cops. I fear no man, Ive only learned from the situations Ive been in.

yes and yes it is hard to trust again. I have found that not all men are like that, although a man can be driven to violence fast though if he is prone to violence. Look for past relationships that he talks about having pushed or shoved or slapped or intimidated, also look for manipulation, guilt trips, tit for tat type actions, moodiness. If you see any of these things rrrrruuuuunnnnnnn. Hope that helps.
