I wrote this poem last year right after my father-in-law passed. He was a good man and was like a real father to me. He taught me alot. Even though I am not married to his daughter anymore, I still think of him as the best man I could have ever looked up too. Although he died right before my birthday, it will be a reminder of a great man that I've learned a lot from and grew to know. In the verse about his Ginger, that would be his little dog which is a chihuahua, that now lives with his daughter.
The Memories of Dan By Robert Mosteller If time were kept in a bottle, of the memories I know of Dan, I could tell you he was a gentle loving man. He may have looked gruff on the outside, But his heart was full of love on the inside. He loved his children and he loved his wife, And to sum it all up he enjoyed his life. He would talk of fish tales and his big deer He was a man that showed no fear. He spread his love throughout to his girls, For that’s what kept him going in this world. He would call them everyday just to let them know He always loved them before he would go. Yes, if time were kept in a bottle of the memories of Dan, There wouldn’t be one big enough throughout this land. His laughter, his stories, or even his bellowing ways, Will always be remembered in the coming days. He will be missed, not only by family and by me as well, But by those he endeared as time will tell. I would have a million bottles by now of the memories of Dan, The 21 years I have known this wonderful man. He may have been the teddy bear in a grizzly bear disguise, You had to see through him to know he was wise. He was like a father to all that came around, No other love could be greater or could be found. His Ginger will miss him but she will go on, He would want that for all and not weep because he is gone. He would want everyone to remember his laughter and smile, He will look down upon his angels when he walks that mile. He will be happier fishing and hunting with no pain, Doing the things he loves without a strain. So with this being said, keep these memories alive, Keep a bottle full of his memories by your side. These things you will always treasure forever more, While God lets him come through His heavenly door. |

Hi Wolfeyes, I'm doing fine except for being sick this week.
Yourself? You are a lucky one to have had the opportunity to have someone like your father-in-law in your life. |
