Forgiveness is commonly misunderstood to mean something like leviating accountability or mental gymnastics to pretend it was okay or find excuses why it wasn't all that bad. It's not about writing a happy ending or anything of that nature.

Forgiveness simply means unburdening yourself from the chains of the past and taking your power back. To recognize ''X happened, it was ****** up, but I'm not allowing it to determine my mood or hold me back'' is forgiving because you stop giving your power away to 3rd parties and situations. It's still completely fine to dislike a person or event, as long as you don't hold resentment, you're in the clear.

I can forgive a person, however, that does not mean I have to have any communication again with that individual. Forgiving someone does not mean reconciliation unless you desire to.

Forgiveness is for the person that was hurt to be able to move forward
Forgive them since they don't know what they are doing
