I find Ham Radio an interesting way to connect with people. My knowledge of it is zilch but I like the concept.

I took out my licence in 1966 and it was indeed a great way to chat to the world without paying the very high phone charges of those days.

The mobile (cell) phone has more or less destroyed the hobby as anyone anywhere in the world can chat with anyone else anywhere in the world holding only a small phone in their hand - that was unheard of in the sixties!

In the early days of the phone someone once said they could see the potential and that one day, every town would have a phone! Yes, that was just the one! We've come a long way since then.

I remember, not too long ago, a good amount of people around where I live formed a group of Ham radio users. They learned at a younger age. It sounded interesting.

I don't suppose anyone is still participating in this forum?
