If Love is a Universal emotion, then the pain it often causes (some might say inevitably causes) is equally Universal. Yet, that only begs the more important question: Why do sad poems and stories of emotional pain bring each of us a strange kind of pleasure?

Because as humans we need pain to appreciate the wonderful, and pity loves company

tis not company that pity seeks for it is not pity but merely another expressed human emotion coming forth and rather than acceptance or company is just a release of that emotion of sadness that the writer feels that some may find company in having felt the same way at one time or another in their life and maybe the pleasure derived from it is the though that the reader may feel less alone ...comprende

Helps to express their feelings and hurts. Everyone wants to be loved and to love, it is just a shame that some have to get hurt along the way.
