Topic: Murder Hornets | |

I couldn't figure out where to put this topic. has anyone heard about these "murder hornets"? That is what they are being called. They came into the Northwest US from Hong Kong and a big worry. I think they finally located a big nest in Blaine, Washington state. That needs to be destroyed. Does anyone know more?

They can kill people. They can also kill honeybees.

The murder hornets, did come from China.
Though, I'm not quite sure it can be localized to Hong Kong. |

Well. it came into this country fairly recently. I live in the northwest, so I think about it. There could be more hives and on the search.

Hornets will destroy entire bee hives which is not something that we need.

Everything comes from China --- goods, clothes, cars, food, murder hornets and, of course, the pandemic!!!!

Who said they (these specific ones in the news) came from China ? As far as I know they've always been called Japanese -or Asian- Giant hornets. First time I saw them -on tv, not in real life- was back in the 90's I think and they called them Japanese hornets.
They're not any more dangerous to humans than regular bees if they sting you. Their sting won't kill you UNLESS you have an allergic reaction to the sting, which can also happen if you're stung by a honey bee. If you're not allergic to the sting you'll just have pain. Of course, if you're stung by a big number of them then yes that can be fatal, but again the same thing can happen if you're stung by a big number of honey bees. I think killer/African bees are probably more dangerous to humans because they're very aggressive and will seek out people and will swarm them if they just happen to be around. Giant hornets won't attack people for the hell of it unless their nest is disturbed. However, yes they are extremely dangerous to bees and will completely destroy a bee hive. They just caught one in BC, Canada, on the border of Blaine -Wa.So, it looks like they're moving north. |
