I bought an 80G hard drive for my computer because I needed more space, but I don't know how to install it! It's an HP Pavillion computer.
If anyone can tell me how to install it in a step-by-step manner, I would greatly appreciate it!

Feel free to send me a message about it!

Thanks so much!

it should come with instructions, but the basics are:

1) turn off computer and unplug it

2) open computer case (the big box with blinking lights)

3) hook up power cables (red and yellow wires) to back of HD

4) hook up data cables to back of HD

if you are confused, look at how your existing HD is hooked up and copy that.

5) before closing up the case, turn on your computer and see if it is detected. windows should walk you through formatting it.

6) if it works, close case. if not, work until it does :)

these are very generic instructions. things may be different depending on your computer, but these should cover the basics. when in doubt, contact the manufacturer of the HD or look for help on the support area of their website.

hope that helps.

Also, you may have to set the jumpers to a differant position, not sure without hyaving it in front of me, but as cranium said it should have the instructions & if not google it, I'm sure there are good imaged instructions out there;^]

watch for static shock too...ground yourself before working on your comp
don't want to fry your motherboard

1)disconnect power and take of case cover. set new drive in empty slot next to existing drive.
2)set existing hard drive jumper to "master", and new one to "slave".
3)connect new hard drive to the same connection strip as your original hard drive is connected, but on the next slot.
4)make certain to connect to power supply.
5)power up and format.

setting the jumpers is very easy...you should have a visual pic in your install guide that will show you what the setting is. your "master" is the one that will boot first, and your "slave" is your secondary storage.

if this isn't the set-up you are looking for, we need more information, lol, as i'm opposed to typing all day.
