1 - Participate in the forums...if someone interests you, you can look at their profile and send her a message
2 - use the free search with a location, age range, and other permitted riteria as input...then look at the list of profiles...if one peaks your interest, send a message
3 - go to the account window and click to see who is online...if a profile peaks your interest, send her a message

None of this requires an upgrade...this is standard Mingle equipment
