Enlightened ignorance Sorry, don't mean to offend or anything, but you gotta admit it's a bit of a paradox;^] |

I think perhaps your doctrine is taking shape now.
Oh no! My personal dogmas (sigh) and 'doctrines' may be taking shape here, but I am not a perfect adherent of the Doctrine of Ignorance. The Doctrine of Ignorance doesn't speak on the topic of purpose (except to say "I don't know") as there is no need to. Funnily enough, more 'shape' is given to the Doctrine of Ignorance in the "Doctrine of Knowledge" thread (http://www.justsayhi.com/topic/show/59763). Also, The Doctrine of Ignorance teaches that enlightenment is only an idea, not a truth, and that most opinions about enlightenment and its nature are probably wrong. -------------------------- official doctrine above, personal opinions below -------------------------- It allows the 'ego' the illusion of 'reason for living', calming it, keeping it at bay - thereby keeping it ignorant.
I may not understand you, but as I understand this, I emphatically disagree. You are speaking from the perspective that they ego requires calming and keeping at bay, and requires 'purpose' for this - which is a collection of ideas/theories which I do not accept as 'truth'. Further, if anything is providing the ego with illusions, it would be ideas, not feelings. A 'sense of purpose' is completely different than an 'idea of purpose'. It may be that being deeply rooted in the wordless experience of a sense of purpose, provides a kind of nourishment for the mind or heart which 'solves some of the problem' of the ego needing particular illusions for particular reasons - but I disagree that having a sense of purpose directly creates illusion. Its just a feeling, not a belief, not an idea. For that sense of purpose as you describe, can only be a temporary state of mind.
Yay! "I got nothing" |

Sorry, don't mean to offend or anything,
No offense taken here - I thought it was funny, on many levels. "I got nothing." |

So you don't like my serious side, hey?
Sometimes the serious will dig deep, to find, even a faultering, kind of logic. So Mass - your doctrine is simply I DON'T KNOW, which you equate to ignorance. But you know much, my friend. You now a great deal about meneuvering in this world - that does not come from ignorance. I do agree with this (in moderation, of course) |

Hello to all in this Doctrine of Ignorance...
It is beautiful... absolutely beautiful... I hope to be able to add value with the following post... it is dear to me, in many ways... ________________________________________________________________ The whole world says that my way is vast and resembles nothing. It is because it is vast that it resembles nothing. If it resembled anything, it would, long before now, have become small. |

I love you serious side! I just disagreed with (my understanding of) what you were saying. So Mass - your doctrine is simply I DON'T KNOW, which you equate to ignorance.
Yes, the Doctrine of Ignorance teaches that "I don't know" is often the only truly honest answer to a question...but I'm not a good adherent to this Doctrine, and am burdened with an excess of personal opinions, opinionatedness, and shameful arrogance. "I got nothing." |

Yes! Yes! I get easily lost in the time consuming matrix of words & reasoning.... this is far more direct. "I got nothing" |

I so enjoy laughing at myself through the eyes of those who see me, know me and laugh with me and not at me.
I often think too long and too hard, and in so doing I miss the most obvious things. So please, with this 'new' understanding I have, let me present a quandary of mine. I do not believe is a god. No matter how one boils the word down, to me, the word 'god', is specific and points to a 'creator'. Creator being some sort of self contained entity. This is not something I feel, nor do I believe. To me there is no truth be found in such a theory. Since there is no proof, from the perspective of logic, that such a creator exists, and because I don't believe it possible, if someone were to ask me 'does god exist?' (under your 'doctrine', would I have to answer "I don't know!") Or is this a case where 'belief' (mine) has become my truth. Have I limited my ability to be objective? And if one is not objective in ALL MATTERS, then is it still possible for that person to proceed without bias in other matters? (see, I just can't help, I have to THINK) |

S1ow, that was HILARIOUS! And one of the rare posts in which I found nothing to disagree with.
and because I don't believe it possible, if someone were to ask me 'does god exist?' (under your 'doctrine', would I have to answer "I don't know!")
Red, Oh! You are asking what the Doctrine officially says on the existence of a creator? Since I'm making this Doctrine up as I go along, I carefully phrased my previous statements to give me some flexibility - but you aren't leaving me much wiggle room here. So I'll just dodge the question and say: the Doctrine teaches that anytime you think you know something, carefully examine -why- you think you know it. Would you say, with absolute certainty and conviction, "There is no creator" ? If so, what do you base this on? Surely more than you've said so far. Or is this a case where 'belief' (mine) has become my truth. Have I limited my ability to be objective?
We are all limited in our ability to be objective; and incidentally, while the Doctrine of Ignorance provides a great foundation for aspiring to objectivity (in that Adherents seek to surrender as much biased opinion and personal belief as possible), the Doctrine does NOT teach that aspiring to objectivity is a 'good thing'. Many ideas about objectivity are used to form yet another belief system, in turn used to falsely prop up a person's view - to elevate opinions or perspectives into 'truth'. And if one is not objective in ALL MATTERS, then is it still possible for that person to proceed without bias in other matters?
I have yet to meet someone who can proceed completely without bias in any matter. "I got nothing" |

much has been said, over the years about how little we truly know and how unreliable is our means for knowing whatever we think we do know.
fortunately, this line of reasoning has been summarized and condensed in a pithy little sequence in that original cult sleeper hit "Dark Star" by John Carpenter...and the key salient points are <illuminated> through two clips on youtube But, you must watch them in order!! "Let there be light...." first, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjGRySVyTDk then second, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_47mmt5SZY |
