If we ever found ourselves in similar circumstances, we could only hope to have the same moral courage and principles that Julian Assange has shown.

Still people ask
Is he a hero or villain?

The US that is who. I thought that was clear in my statement.
Sorry that I appear to have been wrong.

Thank you for clarifying that.
I guess there are many who will play the Devil's Advocate, (not you).
I personally am concerned. No one was accountable for his major leak. If I was Private Manning, I would have done exactly the same thing...

I guess I will play the Devil's Advocate pitchfork

As for Pvt. Manning, what happened to the NCO's and officers in charge? Nothing that has been reported. Because it is a good old boy culture.pitchfork

Correct and sad....Chelsea Manning has just done another stint in prison for refusing to testify against Julian Assange.
That inspires me.
These two show the truth and protect each other when the chit hits the fan.

No media will cover the Julian Assange saga. His plight has grown by social media. What ought to be news is ignored. Yet the outcome of his trial will direct the future for international journalism. The media should have a voice, instead of cow towing to politics.
We live in strange times indeed.

Perhaps we should ask who controls the media

and perhaps we could ask whether they control governments' economic and foreign policies

and my reference to governments includes not only anglo-america (the 5 eyes nations) and the NATO countries, but virtually every country in the world which is being strangled by debt

Perhaps money and power?....

The owners of the banks own the world …

they own the money in the world bank, the IMF, the centrals banks of virtually every country in the world...

they also own the shares in multi-national corporations

in the 1980s Milton Friedman from the University of Chicago crusaded for the free market and the libertarian economic model …. (he was given a Nobel peace prize)

Reagonomics, Thatchernomics you know them, (in your country New Zealanders had Rogernomics because they were well and truly "Rogered").

The adoption of libertarianism and the global free market throughout the world has enabled the bankers to force countries and local authorities to sell off their infra-structural assets. Eventually the shares in the companies which own those assets are owned by the banking elite.

They also own the media corporations and the politicians.

Today conspiracy theories abound … the latest of course relates to the new pandemic and the inevitable question about who could make a buck out of all this

Bullies and criminals hate having the light shone on their works, and will do anything to keep their misdeeds a secret.

When those bullies and criminals have been exposed, they will kick and scream and blame, but not acknowledge the misdeeds that embarrass them.

The messenger often cops the fury and accusations, and the bullies and criminals claim some sort of injury and fake loss to gain sympathy. They play politics.
"I'm insulted and deeply hurt that you accuse me of . . . " and do the "look over there" trick to try to avoid scrutiny themselves.

The australian government is pathetic and a puppet to britain and the us, and never brought him home. Shame shame shame.

If it weren't for great people like Julian, the western world would be marching toward global fascism even faster. More re education/work camps, less freedoms, more censorship, less access to true news, more protest bans, etc.

Cultures which benefit from the proceeds of crimes, eg. genocide, land theft, culture destruction, asset stripping, slavery, false dealings, deception, etc., all have a lot to hide, because you the people wouldn't like to know about it, that you benefited from it, and wouldn't want to make reparations for it.

Not just Commonwealth (common theft) corporations, but many invasive colonial empires from around the world over the centuries.

Are we in the age of enlightenment yet ?
Are the bullies going to be allowed to destroy the messenger ?
It seems they nearly have already. sad2

He's a a hole.
Since when is it the journalists place to give away state secrets?
They think they are above the law!
The general public doesn't need to know how our government's keep us safe all we need to know is that they do it?!

Journalists only report what they want you to know and not the truth.
Why don't they report on the rape and murder of women and children in some of those countries?
Unfortunately children do get killed in war.
But like in Afghanistan and Iraq they killed more of there own because life has no value than were accidentally killed by people trying to help

Anyway he's a slim ball.
Funny how we are doing everything by the book to extradite him to the us but if you kill an innocent man riding a motor bike here it's ok?
