I ran across this phrase at work typing ER reports, HIV-positive. So exactly what does it mean and does anybody know of some informative sites regarding this?

Human immunodeficiency virus...the virus that leads to AIDS
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
It means that person has the virus that causes AIDS, google it.
|
|
|

It means one of two things.
The person was diagnosed HIV positive, because they have the symptoms associated with AIDS and belong to a high risk demographic (IV drug user, homosexual, etc) -OR- The person was determined to be HIV positive because HIV anti-bodies were found in their blood. |

it could be shorthand for Hives...maybe the person has hives!!!
