For some reason, I was thinking about this recently. When I was a kid, around 13 or 14, I had a big operation and had to stay in bed for at least 2 months. I had a pet cat and we were very close and she liked to sleep with me. During that time, I hardly saw her, even with the bedroom door open. I'm thinking now that maybe she knew something was wrong with me. The family dog looked at me for a few seconds and was gone. What does everyone think.

Usually pets stay close to you even though your ill. They seem to pick up on this and wanna help. But since you were young i think your parents or providers thought it best to keep the pets out of your room so you can recover from surgery. This is only my opinion.

Pets definitely know when their parent is ill, I have two small dogs. Mine know when I'm not feeling well and they want to snuggle with me and/or they bug me for attention because they want to make sure I'm ok. They will "smell" me, because I know that they can sense there is something wrong.

My cat was my best friend. I had to wear a big cast and maybe she didn't like it.
