I know the story, I'm just saying there's debate as to his existance (I have no opinion either way). The story is a wonderful thing, but I don't think lying to our kids about him coming down the chimney and giving gifts to them is what God wants, nor the pagan traditions involved (trees, stockings, mistletoe, etc). I think the best way to honer the story would be the same best way to honer what Christ would want us to do, to give to the poor.

Oh, and the story goes that he snuck by a house over three nights of a man who was considering selling his daughters to pay off his debt, and threw a bag of gold coins each night he snuck by. His identity was only discovered after the man waited on him the third night and confronted him. Nothing in the story about wrapping presents or him begging for food, not that I remember anyway;^]
