the phrase is actually
all is fair in love and war Cervantes' Don Quixote, 1620: Love and warre are all one [Spanish - el amor y la guerra son vna misma cosa]: and as in warre it is lawful to use sleights and stratagems to overcome the enemy: So in amorous strifes and competencies, Impostures and juggling tricks are held for good, to attaine to the wished end. is prolly the most fleshed out version of it. in the novel The Relapse, or Myrtle Bank 1789: Tho' this was a confounded lie, my friend, ‘all is fair in love and war’. it was finally said as it is known today |

I still say that "all's NOT fair in love and war", eric.
I had not experience war myself but my parents did during the second world war. But I had experience love and had my heart broken many times, but hey that's life. Merry Christmas, eric btw, the man of la mancha is also one of my all time favourite. |

Everything is ok in love and war , is it true
Sort of. No one is perfectly ethical. Ultimately, IMO, everyone will do things against their ethics, values, or identity, for the sake of "winning" (love or a fight), rationalizing why they "had" to do it. "Everything is fair in love and war," is not a saying meant to give you permission to behave however you want to any degree, so much as a saying expressing the realization that pretty much everyone compromises who they think they are (behaves like an idiot, solipsist, or an a-hole) for the sake of the ultimate benefit/survival. That everyone rationalizes their "bad" behavior. |

This saying is not said by a person who feels they have been treated nicely. This is said by someone who wants revenge. All is fair depending on how they were treated. You may as well say tit for tat. Also, this saying is not an excuse to behave in a cheating manner. We should all strive to be good to each other. Merry Christmas to all n be good.

OP you or that saying is absolutely true !!!!
Because in war the rules go out the window. .. In love the rules are ignored |
