Earlier today a friend posed the question on another site...for those of us without significant others to share the holdays with, how we were going to cope with the loneliness. This was my response. I hope you find something in it that makes the holidays less lonely for you......

Ya know I was right where you are. I've spent the last 8 Christmases without a S/O. After the second one of making myself miserable I thought..having a S/O does not make or break Christmas happiness, that's giving one person w-a-a-y too much credit, not to mention pressure. Would I prefer to spend it with a S/O, you betcha, but my joy does not absolutely depend on it. Now, I treat it like any other day, don't expect anything from it, don't get my hopes up, stopped setting myself up for the inevitable disappointment. I stay busy that day, I usually volunteer to work so folks with kids can have the day off, and that makes me feel good. And I try to remember I just don't have a S/O.......not homeless, penniless, friendless, unemployed or ill.

I don't mean to make light of anyone's pain. I know the loneliness goes bone-deep. I know the sense of loss is heart-breaking. But, what if we never have a S/O again to spend holidays with? Are we going to spend all of our remaining Christmases being miserable for what we do not have, rather than rejoicing in what we do?

As for the mistletoe, I plan to plant myself under it every chance I get and collect as many kisses as I can. smokin

I bought one of those little Christmas hats with the Mistletoe attached to it. It's good for at least 2 or 3 kisses a yearsmooched
