Topic: Do you Remember Live Aid (1985)? | |
---|---|
Almost 35 years later, and still the best Rock music event ever! I was a student then, and although I didn't see it live, I remember my friends and I were watching it on TV and listening to it on radio. U2, Queen, The Pretenders, Tom Petty, etc. What a day indeed!
Where were you doing that day? What were your favourite moments and acts? Which bands or singers who didn't play at Live Aid, but you wished they did? |

I was 9 at the time but I do remember live aid. I was living in South Jersey at the time and I remember it being on the news. To me I would say Woodstock is the most important concert based on the impact that it had at the time and to this day. Jimi Hendrix's star spangled banner is probably the greatest performance ever.
My favorite is Jeff Beck...I seen him a couple of times. I think he performed with Clapton and Page at live aid. |

I must have watched it on tv because I would have been about 18 at the time and there were a lot of bands bands and singers I wanted to see, but I can't remember anything about it.

What a collection of great artists, band aid too.
34 years on and the people who it was intended to help are still starving, they are still breading children into a no hope future. Maybe that should be the focus of remembrance, did it achieve anything more than a good day out for privileged people? Nope. |

I'm sure, many went into it with the best
of intentions. People who donated money, did so with the best of intentions. The promoters got fat. The militias got fat. The starving people, kept starving. |

I remember I was 29 and really busy.

I was throwing a birthday party for my daughter that day. As I was quite busy I didn't get to see very much of it live but caught up with it on telly that night.

Hard to beat Clapton doing Layla!

Thankfully we have YouTube as I have been able to go back and watch several of the acts. It's hard to beat what Queen did when they performed. And knowing the back story on how they almost didn't make it to perform live at Live Aid makes what they did all the more special.

I was 11 years old, but the Queen sounded a lot in my country with cassette and vinyl. I saw fragments later in musical programs but they gave it as one more news of the show. Then we know everything that happened a memorable concert if without comparison with any other great

I wasn't born when the thing happened but I still get a kick out of the idea that Phil Collins played in Led Zeppelin for a show. I think he's mostly a total wanker ("Can't Hurry Love Comes To Mind"). Freddie Mercury's white Wranglers during Queen's performance are truly inspiring-- and that matching white Telecaster! Good God! I'd be like the biggest Queen fan if Roxy Music, Bowie, and T-Rex weren't a thing.
Do they know it's Christmas time on Mars? ;3 |

I don't recall watching it.

I watched it. I recall particularly liking Queen, U2, and Elvis Costello. I thought Zeppelin's set was weak as was The Who's set.
I was shocked Springsteen wasn't there since he was the biggest act in the world at that time. It would have been nice to see The Kinks, although they were never much of an "Arena Rock" band. Of course, the three surviving Beatles with Julian would have been the one I'd most like to have seen. |
