From experience, you should never let your meds run out or stop taking your meds. I'm not sure how your refills work but I believe you can pick them up 5-6 days before you finish the month's supply. Going without meds, especially being bi-polar, is a good way to bring on a manic episode. Benadryl? Is she joking or what? Are your panic attacks to the point of where you think you are dying or already dead?
What are you taking? Mood stabilizers? Anti-depressants? Anti-pychotics? Oh, and please turn off the caps. Yelling this early in the morning is so not cool. |

Yeah, I need to get better at taking my meds regularly also. =\ You should ask your doc about Mood stabalizers. not benedryl they work much better for Bi polar.

I'm not going to speak when it comes to why people don't do certain things because I havn't been in their shoes soo... yeah.
But, honestly, the benadryl is a good recomendation. The reason it is making you drowsy is because its relaxing your nerves so if you find it takes too much out of you try lowering your dose if thats possible. Another good thing that may be a good substitute for you would be St Johns wort. But please be smart about it. Obviously don't take it with any other medication that has the same effect. Talk to the nurse about that. The effects may be a little milder and so nicer for you. Another thing you can do to calm anxiety or nervousness is burn lavender scented oil or! Put dried lavender in your clothing drawers. |

Being extremely familiar with mental health I can say several things.
#1 if you are Biploar and have been off your meds for "awhile", why are you angry with your doctor for not being at work? What is another week? #2 Are you aware your doctor can not responsibly prescribe antipsychotic medications without assessing you first? #3 If I read your message correctly it looks as though you have run out of a benzodiazapine and this is what you are actually wanting. This is a controlledsubstance and thedoctor cannot legally prescribe it without seeing you. There are no refills on these medications. Benadryl will calm you, it will work similiarly to Vistaril. #4 Panic attacks are best resolved by behavioral modification therapy, not medicines. Good luck to you and beware to run out of medicines if you are mentally ill. |

Put dried lavender in your clothing drawers. No offense, illithed, but those items are just not strong enough for bi-polar disorder. If you've ever had a panic attack or a manic episode, then you would know. You need something with the strength of Lithium to bring you down from a manic episode. Nothing quite that strong for a panic attack but once you become manic, you need to be hospitalized to become stable again. |

Never claimed to know. Just throwing out a suggestion for something milder since it was the strength of her medication that she said was bothering her.

Vistaril is almost identical to Benadryl. It is also cheap, about $5 for a prescription. Seroquel and Trileptal are still under patent and can be received via samples. Go to a local community mental health clinic and ask for your medications. However, they would have to verify with your current doctor what you are taking before they would assist you.
Just so everyone is aware, the Seroquel is a mood stabilizer and the Trileptal has a anti-depressant effect. It is NOT for people with manic episodes as thier primary problem. Vistaril is an antihistamine, so is Benadryl. You are talking Motrin and Aleve, in terms of similiarity. |
