How can Africa, with ballooning population, achieve food sufficiently while at the same time keeping an eye on the environment.

I'm half African so permit me to give you my humble opinion.

The first thing would be to prevent foreign nations and corporations out of Africa from exploiting the rich natural resources of the continent and exploiting the African population.

Second, the African nations need a common central bank and its own currency complete with a trade strategy to rival the rest of the world.

Third, the continent of Africa needs its own military and peace-keeping force independent of all other nations, complete with a counter-terrorism task force and a central intelligence worth its name.

Fourth, Africans need to vote on a council representing an African Block that would oversee those above measures.

Fifth, that council needs to have a clear and enforceable term limit to ensure full democracy and freedom for all.

Sixth, that African council needs to draft a constitution common to all the African nations, approved by all native Africans and free from foreign interference.

Seventh, the African block needs to develop a strong manufacturing base to rival with foreign imports and create jobs.

Eighth, the African block needs a clear and practical outlook of its destiny and develop a continent-wide technological program to propulse it into the future, complete with an independent space and viable health programs.

Ninth, quit selling each other out to foreign nations.

Tenth, quit thinking in tribal terms.

I think the ballooning population of the whole world is at the root of a lot of other problems like global warming and we all need to face that fact. There are roughly 3 times as many people in the world as there were in 1950, 30 times as many as when Christ lived.

It's good that we have technology like LEDs and lithium batteries to make electric cars feasible, but those are only temporary relief. The global warming problem exists because more people means more energy consumption. Not to mention countless wars because people can't get out of each other's way any more.

The UN or somebody needs to start on a global program of population control. China and India have faced it but we all have to live on one planet for the foreseeable future. We don't have the technology to move half the population somewhere else, that's a pipe dream. Birth control, attrition, downsize, in a manner fair for everyone, that's why it needs to be an international effort.

If you can't feed your peoples, why are you having more children before fixing the problem?... most all other species of life on the planet doesn't reproduce as much if they can't eat, they adapt in other ways or go somewhere else where there's a better food supply... Africa is one of the oldest places where man has inhabited, and still the most underdeveloped continent on Earth... There has to be a way to grow crops without disturbing the wildlife there, I don't think corn or wheat would grow very well with millions of of wilderbeasts and zebras eating everything in site...

Be nice if they could get crops going instead of the children mining cobalt to put food on the table for their grandparents because their parents died from it. Global Corporations go there and buy it at market for next to nothing. Used in Electronics.

sad thing, they would have to kill off the wildlife before they can grow crops, like we did with the buffalo, deers, horses and moose...

That was a shame the gov. supplied the military with ammunition to kill them off. That's a massive pile of buffalo skulls the man with the trophy head is holding atop it all. whoa

All looks good but impractical.
You quote like de-globalization..is it possible?
Countries need large money for some significant change. They have to work in cooperative ways in inviting big indusrialists/ nations.

Africa has done just that, inviting big industrialists/nations and look at the state of affairs now. Nations foreign to Africa are only interested in profit and low-cost labor.

And yes, I believe in de-globalization for Africa. Not only is it possible and doable, but urgently needed.
Africa can stand on its own if only its leaders weren't as greedy and corrupt as they are now.

Greed- thats the point. This is what is most difficult to overcome.
Agree and wish your dream be true but it would be very very difficult if not impossible.

I agree. It would be very difficult. The superpowers of the world would not let it happen. It would be impractical just for that fact.
