Topic: What gender is GOD? | |
---|---|
God is a He, with capital H, not small. He is not a human and would have no reason for a biological reproductive description. Hebrew had no neutral gender, so everything had the male or female(like Spanish) and God was referred to as He. It was the design that the male(he) be the family head, and He(God) is the head of all things. So, in terms of Hebrew language and gender roles, God is HE |

It was the design that the male(he) be the family head, and He(God) is the head of all things. So, in terms of Hebrew language and gender roles, God is HE I think yours is the most sensible and comprehensive answer. The clincher of course is that God is not a material being but a spiritual being, and so biological reproduction (and with it, gender) don't apply to God. It may be possible to determine if God is more masculine or feminine in his/her mental make up, but since he/she is the source of both Adam's and Eve's distinct ways of thinking and feeling, and they were both made in God's image, God must have both masculine and feminine traits to his/her personality. (Ok, I'm going to stop using his/her in relation to God, because that just feels weird. But then, even contemplating the gender of God seems to me like a weird thing to do.) |

god is Sisters for the Brothers god is Brothers for the Sisters Where would you get this from? This is certainly not biblical because in the bible God tells us to call him our Father in heaven. IIRC not even Jesus ever told his disciples to think of him as their brother, but such other things as Lord, Saviour, Teacher, Friend. Jesus is also known as our "kinsman-redeemer" but this does not mean he is brother to everyone, but it emphasises that he took on the form of a human, born from a woman even, so that he could be the redeemer of all mankind. |

Interesting. So the character of Jesus, a literary and astrological hybrid, is most explicitly a plagiarism of the Egyptian sun god Horus.

so god coveted another man's wife? God must be a liberal, because he uses the phrase " don't do as I do, do as I say"... God can't even keep up with his commandments... I struggle to see how your post logically follows on from what I said in my post. But I guess you're someone who doesn't like the idea of God and seizes any opportunity to criticise Him. FYI, he didn't covet any man's wife. It's not like Mary literally had sex with God, or with anyone for that matter, because she was still a virgin and Joseph didn't go near her until after the birth of Jesus. The power of God overshadowed her and created within her womb a zygote. The rest was up to natural biology. God, through the angel, told Mary that she'd been chosen for this task of being the human mother of Jesus Christ, and Mary consented. And as God, He is the one who issues commandments, but He doesn't necessarily have to follow them himself. He is God after all and sovereign over all. He does not need to answer to you for what He does. You can sulk and say "well I'm not gonna follow and worship Him in that case" but that is like cutting off your nose to spite your face; it won't affect God, but it will have a detrimental impact on your future. God is the Creator, and therefore the supreme authority in the universe, and as such He can do as He pleases; it's His creation after all. Christians trust that God does everything for our ultimate good, even if it does not seem so at the time. God's act of causing Mary to fall pregnant while still a virgin is hardly a good reason to turn away from Him. |

Well if you're talking about god by just saying random stuff that is not in line with biblical truth, then you're spreading a false gospel. There's a warning against doing that kind of thing, at Galatians 1:9. God doesn't want people to be confused and misled with false messages. |

Interesting. So the character of Jesus, a literary and astrological hybrid, is most explicitly a plagiarism of the Egyptian sun god Horus. Jesus was no literary and astrological hybrid. He was a real historical figure, and there's plenty of extra-biblical evidence for his existence. Golly....where to begin? Lets see... shall we start with Tacitus, first century Roman historian, mentioned a new religion of "superstitutious Christians who suffered under Pontius Pilate during the reign of Tiberius" and were following a leader named Christus (Latin for Christ) We have Pontius Pilate and his written report to the roman Emperor about his actions in having Jesus crucified. We have Suetonius, chief counselor to the Emperor Hadrian who wrote that there was a man named Christus who lived during the first century in his Annal15.44 . There is Julius Africanus quoting the historian Thallus about the "darknes covering the land upon the crucifixion and death of Jesus the Christ" We have Flavius Josephus the Jewish historian. In his writing "Antiquities" he refers to James, "the brother of Jesus, who was called the Christ"....as well as this saying recorded in his writings that says "Now there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man. For he was one who wrought surprising feats....He was [the] Christ...he appeared to them alive again the third day, as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him. Then of course there is The Babylonian Talmud (Sanhedrin 43a) confirming Jesus' crucifixion on the eve of Passover and the accusations against Christ of practicing sorcery and encouraging Jewish apostasy. Lucian of Samosata was a second-century Greek writer who admits that Jesus was worshiped by Christians, introduced new teachings, and was crucified for them Also listed is Pliney the Younger, in his Letters 10:96 records early Christian worship practices including the fact that the new religion converts worshiped Jesus as God and were found to be "very ethical, loving, and kept something called the Lords Supper" as "followers of the Christ". We have Polycarp, Polycrates, Victronius, Eusebius, Iraeneus, Justin Martyr, Origen, Jerome, Clement of Alexandria, Beatus, Tyconius, Primasius, Caesarius of Aries, Augistine of Hippo, and a lot more. So YES, there ARE historical recorded writings naming Jesus Christ as a real person, NOT some myth. Then consider one other thing. From the time of Nero, but especially during the reign of Domitian onward, there were continuous persecutions and executions of thousands and thousands of the new converts, or, Christians. A man might die for a belief in someone who lived and was believed in, but what would be the purpose of the thousands dying if it was for a lie? Why? Logic doesnt fit. Sorry. So, if you want to claim that Jesus was a literary and astrological hybrid, then you are just dead wrong. Period. This isnt talking theology, religion, whether or not he was the Messiah or even claiming he was God....it just confirms from secular history that he DID exist in the flesh as a real person. |
