we chat by me replying to your topic
 there is also an instant messaging application that you can see on people's profiles... where you can chat privately if you wish or through email to anyone ... by clicking their "email this person" button - that's a message that will show up in your little JSH inbox |

yep there a little instant message button on the bottom to talk to driffrent people but u cant group chat or anything :(

You can send people instant messages if they are online... you will get the option on their profile to send them a message. Or you can just send someone an email, set up a time to chat.
