Dark-colored cola may cause kidney disease
Posted: Nov 30th 2007 2:11PM by Chris Sparling It appears as though there may be a risk to drinking diet soda after all, although it has nothing to do with the alleged risk of obesity. Rather, there is evidence to suggest that drinking dark-colored diet cola (and dark-colored regular cola) can increase your risk of kidney disease. Based on a report published in the journal Epidemiology, drinking two or more dark-colored sodas -- such as Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, and similar generic brands -- per day doubles your chances of kidney disease. The phosphoric acid found in dark colas, but not in clear sodas such as Sprite and 7-Up, is what gives it its unique taste, but also what may lead to the development of kidney stones. This, in turn, can potentially lead to complications and disease. |

Being healthy means dying as slowly as possible. For myself I want to be sick when I die, I would hate to waste a perfectly good body by dying healthy. One thing is certain, I am going to die from something it might as well be from drinking diet coke as from the Type II diabetes I got from Agent Orange exposure. Then, I may be so preoccupied with worrying about dying from all this stuff that I absentmindedly walk out in front of a bus.

I quit drinking soda 20 years ago, it was because we have diabetes in the family and I did not want to have it. I have found for me it is not about trying to live longer, it is about your quality of daily life that makes me try to be healthier. I feel better when I eat better, I feel better when I don't have soda. I am not perfect either, I smoke and have not been able to give it up yet so I do know that that will kill me someday too. We all make choices. I had heard before that soda can cause liver disease like alchohol does but I did not know it was true. I was just posting it FYI anyway. No opinion on it one way or the other.

People live alot longer now than 100 years ago. Why? Because we are very much health conscious and know more about how to keep ourselves healthy.
Unfortunately, even with these healthy bodies, comes mental problems like dementia and alzheimers. I work with these people everyday...I think I would rather die from drinking too much pop than walking around smearing feces on the walls and talking to myself... |

Very true gypsy some of the diseases are a terrible way to live out the rest of your life I have been diagnosed with MS and I see others who are not as lucky as me with the disease. It is a terrible thing. I have been very lucky with mine, I can still walk, see and hear.
But I did not post it for people to feel bad, I am sorry if that is the result of the post, it was not meant that way. |

Don't feel bad, Dragoness .
You passed on good information to us. Some people might read your opening post, and give up the dark sodas. As for me, I'd say that Caffine-Free Diet Cokes are the closest thing I've got to an addiction in my life. I love them far too much to give them up. I'm also a type-2 diabetic (diagnosed in January 2006). It's under control with proper medication, reasonable diet, and moderate exercise. I'll keep my DCs, tho. A life where you deny yourself everything is not much of a life at all. I'm sorry to hear you were diagnosed with MS. I wish you the best of luck, and I'll say a prayer for you . I'm glad you started this thread. It's a good thread. A thought-provoking one, and those are the best kind. |

I know what you mean Knox, we have had to give up so much, at least lets hang on to our diet cokes. I don't know if all this clean living will make me live longer but it will sure make it seem like it If I had to give up diet coke and coffee It would make me want to put on snowshoes and do the Watusi in a minefield
