“No!” screamed Marcus, “Dr Jen, what are you doing?!” as he jumped up and lurched towards Dr Jen, she turned her head to look at him, and that was the last thing she saw, as her naked hand sunk into a shimmering black liquid.
Darkness echoed, shimmers of darkness, sparks of light, shimmers of light, etched in the echoes of the eons. “Hello, hello,” did these words echo in Jens mind, or in this strange dark place? “Hello, hello” it echoed back, it sounded like her own voice. That wasn't a response, it was mimicking. Jen felt it was learning, “who am I?” She echoed, Jen was confused, did that come from her? “I know Who I am” she thought, the consciousness was her, but it did not know it's self. “I am Jen”, “who am I, who am I?” it echoed again, “I am Jen” she replied in her mind. It was as though her mind echoed back, “I am Jen, I am Jen” it echoed back. “I am Jen” she thought, “we are not Jen, you are separate from me” Jen replied. It didn't understand separation, individuality. Jen knew she and it weren't one, It did not understand, it was learning. “I am not Jen?” it echoed. “You are Jen?” it echoed, “who am I?”. Jen thought, “I do not know?” she replied. “I am separate from you” it was communicating to her as one mind, but it didn't know separation, it didn't understand it. “We are not Jen” it replied. “You are Jen”. “Who am I?” it replied, it was like a child now, Jen felt it learning from her. But she knew it was far older and greater in knowing in the vastness of the cosmos, she felt it, felt something that connected her to a vastness far beyond her limited consciousness. But it was like a child in it's knowing of her. “You do not have a name?” there was a silence in the darkness then a reply “What is a name?” It had no identification for it's individuality, Jen felt it only knew it's self as pure existence, being, holistic and un-separated ,cosmic. Outside the disk It had been days now since the other team members watched in horror as Dr Jen fall into the disk. They rushed over to the object but it had turned solid again after quickly consuming her. Marcus breaking protocol also took off his gloves to touch the disk quickly after, but it had turned cold and hard to the touch. “Dr Jen, can you hear me, Dr Jen” as he hammered frantically on its shimmering surface. They used every available tool at hand to try to cut or open the object, but it was impervious to everything they had with them. Not a scratch appeared on it shimmering surface. They couldn't tell if she were dead or alive. |
