so this is what the fourth of july weekend is like without your kids coming and going with mini explosives and. that half gallon of milk that was just there 15 minutes ago..
no extra clothes in the laundry.. toothpaste cap actually still there and I'm not worrying at 1 pm if someone is going to be on roads driving home... somehow like most things.. i imagined this would. be different... no wonder we celebrate the coming of grandchildren |

it hit me the other day that the fourth was soon to be here
in times gone by I was the one figuring out the menu cooking for all the in-laws trying to figure out how much meat to buy and some kind of patriotic dessert oh crap did I forget the sparklers... and what were those snake thingies ya lit on fire and poppers for the kids to throw at each other that left little bits of paper all over the place bug spray and a blanket and what time did those fireworks start again worrying about where we were gonna park and was my father in law gonna grumble about it all night would the big boomers scare the baby not this year this year my daughter in law has invited me out my son is going to man the barbeque I am only driving to their house but my son is driving us all into the fireworks my job as Nana is to oooh and ahh with my grandson and smile and remember all the fourths that have come and gone and just....be |

sounds perfect.. we wo uld just throw lawn chairs and a mattress in the bed of the truck, a football, a cooler and enough bug spray to start a submarine
