Whisper - Not passing judgment or giving out grades. Just making an observation.

It is just like asking is there not any fashion majors, if you see somebody's shirt un tucked. People are not perfect in everything they do, so why does this even matter?

i actually have a fantastic education for english and literature and latin as well, but there is a diff. in online vernacular especially where our words have to put attitudes across as well as the information we are trying to project with our words. my english when i post on these things is often horrendous but it doesnt mean i'm not well educated and extremely well read. i've got a lot of "redneckisms" on my profile page where there's stuff spelled wrong on purpose!

Well, I am educated but make my fair share of mistakes. I'm not that bad,but I type fast and don't proof everything I post. I'm pretty haphazard when it comes to punctuation though. I think that what women like most (and men too, I guess) is someone to incessantly nag them about their spelling errors and grammar. Because we all want someone to hover over us on a message board and continually insinuate that we are all retards.

As long as posts are readable and not completely riddled with really bad errors I don't mind.

LOL. no ill feelings intended. theres a place for it and then there's a place where such relaxed language is inapppropriate, like at work. but on here there's really no such thing as proper grammar; especially in some of the sillier topics.flowerforyou

Alright heather, you swung me over. But what do I do about this curse I have that immediately recognizes spelling and grammar errors? I know, I know. I'll just keep it to myself, but it won't be easy.

let me tell u one of my bizarre things baby, i'm the same way. i love love love correcting grammar and playing with words because of the type of educational upbringing i had. here's the thing. i print out what is full of errors. (or write it) i get out my pen and "correct" it. to my own satisfaction. that gets it out of my system, plus its fun. something to keep in mind when u are a language arts lover tho is think of all the great emotions in literature that are brought to us purely with bad grammar. ie dr. seuss, shel silverstein. we can't all be lewis carrolls' keep in mind the emotion and intent behind what someone is trying to say and i think u will find the way in which it is delivered wont irk you quite so much.flowerforyou

I am not an English major but I do have a Bachelor's in Journalism, which is close enough due to all the English classes I had to take. I am pretty darn nitpicky about grammer myself.

Well I'm glad to find that I'm not alone out here. I just get the overall impression that society in general has adopted a "that's good enough" attitude, rather than distinguishing correct from incorrect. I'd better shut up now before i git myself in a heap trubl mor.

As long as we're nitpicking, Becca....

grammar: g-r-a-m-m-A-r

Ugh!!! I can't stop!
