"Mass, why a higher standard in public than private?"
Wow, many reasons. Its a courtesy to others, which I wish more people practiced. Also, everyone has a different ability to properly interpret/understand a person's intentions or real thoughts - words are always inadequate, but I can be careless with certain people with no loss of meaning, or wrong assumptions. Consider someone on meth, or the people you see in the streets talking to themselves, nonstop and vigorous. I see a continuos spectrum between that approach to expression/communication, and the contemplative, deliberate approach. Different degrees of self-censoring. We all choose different places on that spectrum, but I think we can all agree these threads would be nearly useless if all people always took the stream-of-consciouness meth-addict approach. So restraining oneself can be courtesy for the benefit of group dialogue. |

Well, quite frankly, I get sick of lookin at my mug, so pictures I like to look at are what I go with or that have some sort of symbolism to me(granted, I may be the only one that understands what it symbolizes, but eh, such is life).
As always cute, easily understood and very well stated. |

According to Plato, knowledge is a subset of that which is both true and believed. So then what is halftruth? A half-truth comes in several forms, and is a deceptive statement, that includes some element of truth. The statement might be partly true, the statement may be totally true but only part of the whole truth, or it may utilize some deceptive element, such as improper punctuation, or double meaning, especially if the intent is to deceive, evade blame or misrepresent the truth. The purpose and or consequence of a half truth is to make something that is really only a belief appear to be knowledge, or a truthful statement to represent the whole truth, or possibly lead to a false conclusion. According to the justified true belief theory of knowledge, in order to know that a given proposition is true, one must not only believe in the relevant true proposition, but one must also have a good reason for doing so. A half truth deceives the recipient by presenting something believable and using those aspects of the statement that can be shown to be true as good reason to believe the statement is true in its entirety, or that the statement represents the whole truth. A person who is deceived by a half truth (there are several kinds) will then consider the proposition to be knowledge and act accordingly. If one takes Plato literally then in his statement then belief is half of knowledge and truth is the other half of knowledge. So then what is worse a halftruth or a blatant lie or is that inconsistant?

I'm so glad that I am who I am, I say what I mean and mean what I say, and if no one likes me then they can go **** themselves. It sounds too much like work to try and be something you are not. I have enough work to do in my life than to try and keep a bunch of stories and lies about myself on the internet straight. What you see is what you get when it comes to me.
And it does infuriate me when I see people using the internet as their "fantasy world" to be something they are not. Stop with the damn RPG! Be who you really are! |

I have heard of halftruths, truths but just founf out that there can be a truth and a half. Karl Kraus, an Austrian journalist, critic, playwright, and poet noted, "An aphorism can never be the whole truth; it is either a half-truth or a truth-and-a-half"

Usually an aphorism is a very concise statement expressing a general truth or wise observation often in a clever way. Sometimes aphorisms rhyme, sometimes they have repeated words or phrases, and sometimes they have two parts that are of the same grammatical structure. Some examples include:
Science is organized knowledge. — Herbert Spencer Lost time is never found again. — Benjamin Franklin Greed is a permanent slavery. — Ali Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. — Ralph Waldo Emerson Death with dignity is better than life with humiliation. — Husayn ibn Ali That which does not destroy us makes us stronger. — Nietzsche If you see the teeth of the lion, do not think that the lion is smiling to you. — Al-Mutanabbi When your legs get weaker time starts running faster. — Mikhail Turovsky Many of those who tried to enlighten were hanged from the lampposts. — Stanislaw Jerzy Lec The psychology of committees is a special case of the psychology of mobs. — Celia Green Believe nothing you hear, and only half of what you see. — Mark Twain It is better to be hated for what one is, than loved for what one is not. — André Gide A lie told often enough becomes the truth. — Vladimir Lenin Like a road in Autumn: Hardly is it swept clean before it is covered again with dead leaves. — Franz Kafka Hate the Sin; Love the Sinner. — Mahatma Gandhi It can embody humour or be tied to some overworked statement, such as: One man's meat is another man's poison. One man's trash is another man's treasure. One man's ceiling is another man's floor. — Paul Simon |

~ The Truth of Primal Needs ~
Plato was half-way lying when he stumbled on the truth He was lying on his side and sipping on vermouth He was dreaming of a woman who’s morals are uncouth I think her name was Jax when she was in her youth Then Rainbow Roy came pondering in to meditate a lie He wondered if he told no one would it make his lie awry? Are truth and lies objective things? he pondered with a sigh But the answers all eluded him and he began to cry Jess rode in on her one-wheeled bike and kissed Roy on the cheek She sensed that his philosophy was making him feel bleak He smiled at her with bashful eyes and then began to speak He told the unicyclist “I have to take a leak” She pointed to the restroom with a picture of a man Roy continued pondering as toward the room he ran LadyValkyrie arrived and landed with her broom Jess knew quite instinctively to face the other room For pondering on truth or lies won’t change our basic needs even drunken Plato’s must perform these primal deeds Just ask Jax, she’ll tell the truth she doesn’t mind at all Plato’s drunk on old vermouth and can’t get up to ball ~~~ |

I also believe in if you have a problem with a person or you feel they lied....to go directly to that person and ask them.

I figure if I am less than who I say I am, then I should be exhausted trying to be it... Wait!!! I am exhausted being who I am...does that make me less real? I'm so confused... |

Sometimes feral, there is no need when the evidence is plainly in front of you.

No, when someone claims they have a pic of them up, and it isn't them, and I know because I have the same pic on my desktop, from the web...
I don't need to put it in their face... that doesn't confuse me, though it does make me sad for the person, who appears to need to be more than they are, when I quite liked them just the way they were. |

nice poem james.. I thought you'd enjoy a night with Plato, even if he wasn't up to snuff. |

Well have you ever thought the pic was stolen from that person.....as the one circulating on the web shows a stomach only as this was just recently brought to my attention. And yes it was stolen. |

I liked your poem, James. I am hoping to get a big Plate o turkey today. I bet Plato is turning in his grave on that one.
