I would very much like to see a science category added to the forums. For two reasons....We should just have one and I think it would eliminate some of the bickering in the religion threads.

Gee, God forbid we learn to communicate without arguing because we have no other choice. I did not realize pagan spirituality and philosophy were not the basis for most religions.

I always thought science/paganism/new age/philosophy/religion all addressed the same thing and were inter-related as well. Why not just try to get along with each other?

I haven't really looked into that forum though - is it that bad in there?

No Adj, I have faith in human growth among other things. Science deserves its own thread. That I do agree on. It would free up room in the religion forum and the current events and general forums, possibly. Again, no adj, I have not performed a survey nor collected any type of data for my hypothesis.

i mostly lurk in religion and occasionally post b/c i cant stand the bickering. another forum would be nice but i think that the ppl that post in either forum would still go back and forth to argue their points. for ex. there will always be christian bashers showing up in religion. just my thoughts.

I would not go in the science forums if they did one. I do believe that people who want to defend God, Christ, and the Bible should do so in religion thread. I don't oppose others beliefs especially if scientifically related should be in a science forum...

So everyone would be happier if only like minded people discussed a topic in a forum? Hmmmm, Mike and Van, is there a way the IM could be extended so like minded people could have a conversation with each other, yet control who enters their conversation??????

that wasnt the intended point diff. im just saying that even if we had separate forums for beliefs, everyone would go back and forth anyway, so what is the point? the bashing would continue on both sides either way. does this make sense?

Yes you're making a lot of sense Winnie and you do have a valid point. What I'm trying to do is see if there are solutions out there that would lessen the "tensions". What one person will see as humor another can very easily misunderstand or choose to take as a slam and then it's off and runnin or maybe I should say slidin' down hill fast from there.

On the flip side of separating them is when has separation ever created a bridge. From what I've seen, it just creates a bigger chasm. Bottom line is nothing will change with the bickering aspect until people learn self-control and refuse to post to it. Not an easy quest.

Actually Winnie, for lack of your name. We did separate the two on another site. It did help a lot with the arguing, and when i say arguing, I don't mean debating. There are two areas on any forum site where people get really heated. Those are religion and politics. You're right...it will not cut it out completely, However, there was a decrease in altercations by about 70% which is overall a noticeable improvement.

Perhaps there should be individual forums for each religion. Then, there should be some for Athiests, Agnostics, and others who profess no faith whatsoever. That might help.

As the Supreme Being.. and his manifestations.. I would think that God would not need defending from us mere mortals... So.. those that defend, might just be defending their own beliefs and themselves.



If there is any validity to what I just wrote above... To be fair, we would have to have a topic for every version of Christianity... Every interpretation of the Qur'an. Every philosophy in Buddism... and maybe even subtopics in those topics, because there are so many different interpretations of each version, and individual interpretations of those views... Not even the non-believers, do not believe in the same things (If that makes any sense at all).

Pretty much every religious person on the forums that wants to post about religion, would need a forum of their own, to discuss their views...with themselves?
