I just found out because since i turned 18 i was given all of my records
from my birth parents ( cool but not cool) But all my life i have been told that i was European untill today just about an hour ago i was looking through and it said that my mother was from SOUTH AFRICA born and raised but moved here. So i guess this makes me an African American. I just thought that was interesting. :) |

Umm because my birth mom gave me to a homeless person i had no papers
and its taken 18 years for 3 little bits of information. And no it doesnt change who i am but it gives me an identity, you wouldnt know that would you if you werent adopted and who you were was a secret. And know one really knew what i was so i was white so they guessed. And why do i feel like your attacking me??? |

Ladie's, Ladies,
Let play nice, nice. Beautyinchaos, Just because you were born in South Africa does not make you African American. What would give you the idea that you were? Do you understand the term Af. Am. It is used when referring to American Blacks who have descendents from Africa. So are you saying that you are Black American, then if so you must have been Passing in order to pass yourself off as European. And when you say your maother handed you off to a homeless person , then did this person raise you? This is not about adoption but if you put your story out there and don't give connecting details then you leave yourself open to any and all comments, so please don't get uptight. Next time think about the topic and the sensitive nature of it before you put it in a forum. Benzy |

yikes I'm on the wrong board! No offense from my comment Beauty I just
meant that it should'nt matter what nationality you are. Did'nt realize until after your next post what you meant. |
|
|
|
No, the person did not raise me she turned me into the police and then
from Ohio i was brought out to La but did not get adopted till i was 11. And i didnt think it was going to turn out like this. |

The fact is a huge chunk of the population of S Africa is white
(remember apartheid?) mostly of german descent. It was all colonial with the G running things so being of South African descent doesn't mean "of color" <---- my own and most of my black friends preffered term these days. I guess if I were in your shoes I'd be wondering where all of me comes from but it doesn't change who you are and hope you have more luck in the future getting the answers you're searching for. A sense of identity is a most important thing. As for white or "of color".... I once saw a lady I had known from kindergarden and it sort of looked like we might start a relationship. She got all quiet one evening while we were talking and said there was something she had to tell me. "I'm biracial" she said to which I replied...."Ok so you're human and WHAT?" because as far as I'm concerned the only race I see (or want to be in a relationship with) is the human race and the color of ones skin or where they or their parents come from makes not one whit of difference beyond that to me. Wish I could say most of the human population felt that way. I think we'd all get along a crapload better if everyone realized that was the important race issue! I understand wanting to know more about where you're from and who you are but really, if it makes a difference to anyone but you then those people aren't anyone you should care to have in your life Hon. Being adopted I've always thought the biggest issue from my heritage I'd REALLY have to care about were genetic health issues. Again, hopefully you'll have more luck in the future finding the answers you're searching for but in the meantime be who you've always been and love yourself for being that person as much as those who love you do! |
