I read an article today that brought me to tears. It was about a woman with a veteran husband. She was 20 y/o when they married. 3 weeks later he was drafted into the Vietnam War. She received a telegram stating that her husband was not seriously wounded and they would not be sending any more telegrams. As it turns out, he was WAS seriously injured and almost blown up. He lost most of his blood and a leg. When doing skin grafts on his back, he went into cardiac arrest and was brain damaged. He eventually lost his other leg, use of his arms and all speech.
The point of this post, is that the woman remained with her husband. He sleeps in a hospital bed in their living room and she sleeps in a bed next to him. She has taken on complete responsibility for his care. She feeds him through a tube in his stomach, changes the catheter, etc. THIS is an truly amazing woman. She gave up her chances of having children, going on vacations, walking hand in hand with her husband, etc. b/c she loves this man. How many of us could have remained? Btw, she is also taking care of her mother who has dementia now also. I would like to thank all the veterans and military men and women fighting for our freedoms. I love you all and you are in my prayers. I would also like to thank all the men, women, children, families that are left behind as their loved ones go to war b/c you also have a difficult job. May all your loved ones return home safely to you. This is also my prayer. I know I did not do the article justice in this post, but I hope that everyone today will take a moment to reflect on the freedoms they have in their lives b/c of our military and tell everyone in your life that you love them. God Bless! |
