New DNC Email Leak is the Final Nail in the Party Unity Coffin

Just how damning are these new emails?

One, dated May 21st and titled “Bernie Sanders,” from DNC press secretary Mark Paustenbach to communications director Luis Miranda, discusses spreading the damaging narrative that the Vermont Senator’s campaign “was a mess” with the full knowledge that such action could be seen as a conspiracy. Paustenbach writes:

Wondering if there’s a good Bernie narrative for a story, which is that Bernie never ever had his act together, that his campaign was a mess. Specifically, DWS had to call Bernie directly in order to get the campaign to do things because they’d either ignored or forgotten to something critical…It’s not a DNC conspiracy, it’s because they never had their act together.

Another dated May 5th, from DNC CFO Brad Marshall appears to suggest implementing a plan right out of Lee Atwater’s South Carolina politics playbook: getting someone to make an issue out of Sanders’ Jewish heritage in order to sway voters in states like Kentucky and West Virginia. The Republican strategy guru earned his infamy employing this exact tactic against former Democratic State Senator Tom Turnipseed in his 1980 congressional race.

It might may no difference, but for KY and WVA can we get someone to ask his belief. Does he believe in a God. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist.

While once again, these leaked emails only serve to confirm what many progressives believed all along, they could not have come at a worse time.

I live in St. Louis. There were dramas but that was the extent of it the first 20 years. Then, as a student I moved to Jerusalem Israel. I have dual values; mom was born in Israel & Holocaust dad served in the IDF. I felt much more rage & spirit in the holy city. I just felt an independent gal, needing to point in my microbe direction. We all have feelings--My approach is music. My true sorta expression this point of thinking is thiis: "if your white, you all right, if you brown, stick around but if you black, oh brother, get back get back get back". Over 70 years later, & Big Bill Broonzys tale is still relevant

We can only guess, until the general election decides things.

In the mean time, any logical analysis (guess) has to recognize that this isn't a situation where one candidate is seen as dreadful while the other is seen as saintly. This is a mess where both parties and both main candidates are seen as problematic at best.

Trump appears to retain much of his support, even after his own errors, foibles, and self-centered bravado is revealed to them.

It's possible that the same will happen with Clinton. Her support has never been based on fanatic adoration, so revelations that her campaign is just as down and dirty as the Republicans (and most every American political campaign at this level always has been) might or might not have an effect.

Both Democrats and Republicans right now, appear to derive the bulk of their "unity" from
abhorrence of the other party's nominee, rather than from positive support from within.
