Arpaio rolls out new look with US flag for inmates

PHOENIX (AP) - The self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff in America" has begun rolling out a uniform change at Maricopa County jails, saying he assigned inmates who are military veterans to hand out striped jail suits with U.S. flags now stitched onto them.

The uniform change that adds flags to the jail suits was announced last week. It went into effect Monday, Independence Day.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio says affixing the flag to the uniforms is about honoring the nation's heritage.

The Arizona sheriff is famous for making inmates wear pink underwear, and for business raids aimed at finding people who used fake or stolen IDs to get jobs.

A federal judge is mulling changes to Arpaio's office in response to a contempt-of-court ruling against him and a top aide for defying a 2011 order to stop their immigration patrols.

Seems like the true statement is being made inside the uniform, not outside. Mass inceration, and use of inmate Veterans to issue uniforms to other inmates in direct violation of the U.S. Flag Code. The flag may not be worn on any garment. Seems our military doesn't know this either, since the flag can be found as many as 4-5 times on one soldier at a time. It's been debated for ages but most people don't even know of the Flag Codes existence, or that wearing a flag as or as part of a garment is in violation of it. I certainly don't think that prisoners should be wearing the flag on prison uniforms, nor should any company be making a profit from selling garments to those incarcerated in the State, whether it's County jail, State or Privitized Prison (Corporation), or a Federal Prison in the State. The All-Star American Sheriff should know this violates the U.S. Flag Code, right?
Make the uniform represent the Facility, the corporation thats profiting from the contract, the corporation that's running the prison and the crime the person was convicted of. At least that way when someone escapes it won't look like someone in a Halloween costume.
Do we really want old glory on every rapist thief and murderer Legitimately convicted in Arizona?

I understand what you are saying. Arizona is part of my area of ops. What the USA doesn't know is that these prisoners are prison scum released from Mexican prisons to infiltrate our country. They are caught as soon as they enter the country. Arpeggio knows that these scumbags would prefer a Mexican flag on their uniform. He likes to piss off these rapist murderers by making their life hell. I don't approve of his tactics. But in this uniform issue, I'm with him. You remove the flag, you earn a demerit. Which means extra disipline. This may seem inhuman, but if you knew the damaged these animals would want to inflict on your fellow Americans...

What the prisoners think? They are being punished. America & most of the world has always had the ideology an 'eye for eye & a tooth for a tooth'
(This isn't a case of abuse or neglect, or prison reform, or inhuman treatment).
The majority, of CONVICTS may like a change from the pink, (& any change that, alters their day to day routine), if they don't.. too bad.

3- Sheriffs

Have, & should have the power they have & should keep the authority they have. The reasons why he (& every Sheriff in the country) is being targeted & harassed & is stepping down & retiring is the pressure & harassment from this administration... who wants to remove their power.

(This is Arizona... !). Sheriff Joe has continuously been accused of 'racial profiling', (from outside of his state), which wants & needs protection. Progressives, mostly outside of Arizona are his accusers.
It is a sick & irrational joke! Who is he supposed to look for when crimes are committed by illegals & migrants in Arizona? Asians?
