how would you deal with sarcasm in social media?

Depends on who is offering it.
If I know the person and have a relationship I care about with them, we just happen to be facilitating our offline relationship via online means, I'd return it, have fun with it.

Otherwise, for the most part, I'd ignore it.
That's the great thing about "social media" and online interaction.
It's a lot like reading a newspaper.
You have complete and utter power to ignore any story or section you feel like. If you don't like the comics, go to the sports section.
If you read an Ann Landers comment it's you as a reader that gives it any importance.

The worst thing about "social media" is that it's called social media and people believe there is any meaningful social interaction going on.
It's kind of like people misconstruing professional interaction at work as true friendship.

IOW there's nothing to deal with. Doing so is relatively pointless and solely for your own gratification.

alas,my ploy is just to respond once to 'clear the air' on my side(in a cordial way, must!).
and then ignore.(even though it's too maliciously provoking)
that way,I found out.the more you don't react.
issue/s will dilutes into nothing:smile:

Well sarcasm is quite popular in the free world. But in the east ,they get very insulted by sarcasm.

Here's a lesson in sarcasm that might help you get over it..

How do you keep a simpleton in suspense? I'll tell you tomorrow.

Some people, and cultures, get insulted by waking up in a morning!

Totally IGNORE sarcasm from people I don't know and who don't know me. People who show contempt to others who doesn't do anything bad to them are usually the ones who have problems with themselves, must have lots of hatred in their hearts , bitter from bad experiences in life or could be they see themselves in others or they feel envious or insecure of someone who has what they don't have or they are naturally mean and rude people who doesn't care about others feelings  laugh happy I only care what others say about me if they matter to me such as friends, family or someone close to my heart. Well, most of the time actually this is how I react.......  laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh happy yawn surprised shocked flowerforyou       flowers   happy

I'm also in the "it depends" group.

Here in the US, sarcasm is in common usage. Sometimes it's intended as mood lightening humor, and sometimes it's intended to offend.

When I suspect that the goal is negative, or if I'm not sure, I will point out that a standard problem with ALL sarcasm, is that it is built around making false statements, or statements which the speaker/writer actually disagree with.

So I call for clarification. I ask either that the person express themselves directly and therefore responsibly, or that they accept the only other logical response I CAN have for them, which is to consider their commentary to be meaningless.

Number one goal: protect your stomach lining. Don't fret about it.

Yah you are right, I noticed that too, sarcasm is very common, I wonder whyslaphead . Well I guess there are just rude people who doesn't care about offending others, naturally ill mannered narrow minded people?oops well, I was taught to be more responsible with my actions and careful with my words so as not to offend others.

The negativity that comes out from the mind of a person is who they are and what they are as a person. Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion or views but that doesn't give them the right to trod on anyone's foot.

As for making a clarification, I believe we don't need to defend ourselves to people who don't know who we are, but only to those who are of value to us, they deserve an explanation. People behave in the way how their minds work, we can't please everybody nor force them to like you or agree with your opinion.

Lol! I agree with you totally, one must protect their stomach lining from harshness of the real world:laughing: smile2 or ignore and give them your cold shoulder.....just shrug it offindifferent biggrin drinker
