"Speaking to a group of confused and disinterested shoppers at an ASDA store in Southend, Mr Cameron said: ‘When I was elected Prime Minister without the need for a coalition in 2015, I was put in charge of the United Kingdom and given the power to run the country however I see fit – otherwise there wouldn’t be much point in having a Prime Minister. If you are the manager of a shop, you run the shop and make the big decisions. If you are a milk man or milk woman, you are in charge of your milk float and all of the milk that it carries. If you are elected as the head of an entire nation, you have the final say in its affairs. This is why I’ll just ignore the referendum if things don’t go our way.’" Kind of sounds like another leader on this side of the pond, doesn't it??? |

Boris Johnson is bookmaker's favorite to succeed Cameron
June 24, 2016 in London, Britain June 5, 2016. Jeff Overs/BBC/Handout via REUTERS LONDON (Reuters) - Former London mayor and leading Brexit campaigner Boris Johnson is the favorite to succeed David Cameron as Prime Minister, bookmaker Ladbrokes said in a statement on Friday. Cameron said he would stand down by October after voters ignored his pleas to stay in the European Union and voted to leave the bloc in a referendum. Ladbrokes quoted Johnson at evens, ahead of interior minister Theresa May at 3/1 and Justice Secretary Michael Gove at 5/1. http://www.yahoo.com/news/boris-johnson-bookmakers-favorite-succeed-cameron-080604925.html?ref=gs/ |

"The British people have voted to leave the European Union and their will must be respected," Mr Cameron said.
"The country requires fresh leadership to take it in this direction," added the PM. "I will do everything I can as Prime Minister to steady the ship over the coming weeks and months, but I don't think it would be right for me to try to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination. "This is not a decision I've taken lightly but I do believe it's in the national interest to have a period of stability and then the new leadership required." Mr Cameron said he had fought the "only way I know how ... head, heart and soul" to stay in the EU but that voters had chosen a different path. With tears in his eyes, his voice cracking, the PM said: "I love this country, and I feel honoured to have served it and I will do everything I can in the future to help this great country succeed." He then turned away, took his wife's hand and headed back into Number 10. |
