More build-a-boyfriend-bear formulas that in many ways could never possibly exist in any sane person and are generally vague and meaningless without greater subjective clarifications.

I mean

"I need a man that is emotionally empathetic and can spot threats to my honor...I want them to respond emotionally to potential threats and do something about them!...but they can't be emotionally empathetic and spot threats to the relationship or can but won't do anything about them!"

You really think those two exist together?

IMO based on the OP I'll bet you have, you just never saw it as support.
Otherwise I'll bet dollars to donuts that you have, but you made them "friends" while you looked for someone that matched what you idealized in the op, and in the interim settled for highly emotional and those that reacted like emotional bipolars because that's what you did understand.

Agree with the suggestions given above. Balance in a relationship means not only that you need to give wisely, but also that you may need to look around to see how you’re also receiving more than you might notice. Find out how to balance your relationships. May you find joy in your give-and-take.
