you call from a favorite night spot
to share the experience by phone
hearing the music from a distance
we listen together though miles apart
your voice soft as you whisper to me
soft words of love and wanting
teasing me on so many levels
we banter back and forth
then you ask me to dance with you
I laugh as we are on the phone
but playfully we dance
miles do not hinder the dance
not quite the same
but in some ways
very much the same
for in my mind
I have you in my arms
swaying to the music
so on this night
we share a dance
if only in our mind
