I know this may be the wrong forum but, this is the busy one. So here goes...
please send prayers or whetever it is you do out to the family of Justin Barney. A 14 year old boy who was injured while playing football at his school on Oct.23rd. He is my cousins nephew, I think that is right...anyway he had played a tackle and played a little longer then complained of a headache and being dizzy. His coach sent him to sit and he colapsed on the field. He was rushed to the hospital in a coma. They did emergency brain surgery on him (blood clot and swelling) and put him in a deeper coma. His numbers went down from there. His brain had very little activity. Then it had none. I was at my sisters house yesterday when the phone call came in that they had taken life support off of him because his brain was flat lined. This is very devastaing as he was an awesome baseball player, and he was torn which one he wanted to play. Remember baseball is his game....he finally decided football after long deliberation. He is gone now. He died on yesterday. A friend of the family stated that it was not the game that killed him...it was the method. These thigs are hard to take. I also had a cousin that was playing baseball and got hit in the head. He continued to play and went home with a headache and layed down. He never got back up. It is scary to think that our games we all play and have played over and over can kill you. Just one little wrong thing. Kat |

RUSH SPRINGS, Okla. -- Rush Springs football players wore his jersey number on their helmets and the crowd observed a moment of silence to remember a 14-year-old high school freshman who d
died after suffering a head injury during a game last month. Justin Barney, No. 88, died Friday at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. A cause of death wasn't released, but he was hurt in a freshman game Oct. 23 while making a tackle against Washington. Black ribbons were painted on both 35-yard lines as Rush Springs and Washington varsity teams played. Coaches and players from both teams gathered for a prayer at midfield before the game. Joe Tunnell, a longtime football coach at Rush Springs, said the town was still trying to deal with Barney's death. "It's horrible for the family and the school," Tunnell said. "The whole town was praying about it, just hoping he would wake up and be OK. It's just a terrible accident." Tunnell said he never had a player die during the season. The Class A playoffs begin next week, and Rush Springs will likely host a playoff game. "It's going to be tough on them. It'll be devastating." Bailey Jensen said she thought Barney would survive his injury. Jensen said she learned of her classmate's death from her youth minister, who had been updating some students daily on his condition. "It's hard for everyone," Jensen said. "He's been fighting for a long time, and all of the sudden, it happens. We thought he was going to make it, so it was a shock. He was an amazing guy." Jennifer Wratislaw, whose daughter was friends with Barney, wore a pin with Barney's initials to the game. She remembered Barney as kind, young man. She said he would have wanted Friday's night game with Washington to go on. "He wanted to win. We're all here hoping that we win for him. |

My thoughts and prayers go out to Justin's family. I had read about it on here, then when I got a paper and read it in there and discovered he was in Oklahoma, it really hit me. I love my fellow Okies and when anything happens, I feel it too. I am family oriented and we are all family. Please know that he is in the most beautiful place and one day you will see him again for eternity. Don't take everyday for advantage, like most of us do when we know it could be our last one here on earth. Remember to hug your kids and tell them you love them every single day. Even if they may think it's not the thing to do, if they think they are too old. They are not too old. Give each other a hug, and let them know they mean more to you than life itself.
GOD BLESS YOU ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
