Teen in Mexico After Teacher's Arrest

LEXINGTON, Neb. (AP) - A 13-year-old student with whom a middle school teacher is accused of fleeing to create a romantic life in the boy's native Mexico may be required to stay there.

An illegal immigrant while residing in the United States, 13-year-old Fernando Rodriguez may not be able to return to the rural Nebraska town where he was an eighth-grader.

Peterson was turned over to the FBI early Saturday. The boy was turned over to relatives in Mexicali because he was an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT in the United States and was not allowed to return, Arenas said.

Now what?
How do you prosecute someone (the teacher) when the victim and key witness is in another country?

Will this matter?

Will the great hordes of humanitarians cry that this is another example of inhumane treatment when we send his parents home where they belong!

I say take away her citizenship and send her there too. Let the Mexican authorities deal with it and give them a teacher to boot!!

I wonder now just how much this boys family knew? Did they know this was going on and keep silent for fear of deportation?

Do people really think it helps to aide these illegals? It may just be that their complacency made it possible for this boy to be molested by this teacher!

Silence in such cases can be very harmful!!

Slave labor for employers, because the illegals cant complain!

Hang with me now, but its possible that this same fear created a sex-slave for this teacher, because the illegals were afraid to speak up!

Dawson County Attorney Elizabeth Waterman said she knew about Fernando's immigration status but did not know how it was going to affect her case against Peterson.

Peterson is charged with kidnapping, child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in Nebraska. She also faces federal charges of transporting a minor across state lines or a foreign border for sexual activity, U.S. Attorney Joe Stecher said.

Stecher said he did not intend to double-prosecute Peterson, and would work with Waterman to decide in which jurisdiction she would face charges.

probably in many cases like this you will find a history of sexual/ physical abuse
of some kind...course that doesnt make it right....

It does make one wonder how many other children will come forward now!!

The teacher has a hearing tomorrow. We will see what comes of all this soon I think!
