SWEET SMILING FROWN She’s forever got a piece of my heart. I guess I knew it from the start. From that first time that we met, the conditions all wrong. Put it out of my head. Would be totally preposterous, just a major insult, but already she had me, owned a piece of my heart. I could comfortably accept it. I could see it would never work. She’s a raging volcano and I’m a ticking time bomb. Just leave the beauty alone and watch the flower bloom. And if I happen to catch the rare smile, it’s like a rainbow at noon as it colors the sky with rays of hope and bright sunshine that burns clouds away and dries up the rain, a taste of happiness sweet dessert through way too much bitter pain. Once this volcano erupted, spewed hot lava on me, burned my skin away and smoked up my eyes. I was so confused as I thought I was help, so caught off guard, didn’t have a clue. The sky became dark and grey as the insults filled every bystanders ears. The heat was so great, it nearly brought me to tears. So the ticking time bomb finally exploded, but too little too late, was no match for volcano of such magnitude. Swallowed up in the eruption and so easily calmed down, used love’s sweet smiling frown. Even in great anger I had to admire this ridiculous woman, had put out my fire and dispelled my rage. I knew I had to escape and get to safe ground and yet some sickness inside me still wishes she were around. By Jude Richardson |
