some of you may know epilepsy month is next month. just need some support as i sit here in cincinnati childrens with my neice. does anyone out there know anything about seizures? my neice is 1 and has had seizures since she was 8 weeks. they have no clue what is causing them as all her tests cone back normal. she averages 1-2 incidents per week and are getting worse. she had 8 back to back this time and ended up on a ventilator. she was moved from icu to the neurology floor yesterday. so any feedback could help

is she taking medication (tegratol-carbamezapine)

there are so many different types of seizures.

There are also many different things that can trigger them. Have they tried when she is home to go stay in a different enviroment and see what happens say your parents home for a few days.

Sometimes it is even deit related, Truly not knowing anything about your neice or here lifestyle hard too say anything.

My younger brother was diagnosed with epilepsy seizures when he was a baby. He went to the dr. and all that jazz, but eventually he grew out of the episodes. Although, medically he still is considered epileptic.

but this sounds like if they are doing the eeg's and the tests arw coming back negative the she has what they call
partial-epilepsy need to find the trigger and take it away

enviroment is usually the easiest to control

When my daughter was younger, she would fall asleep with her eyes open. We would pick her up and carry her to bed, she was limp as a rag doll and eventually, she would close her eyes. One day she had a seizure with muscle convulsions and we found out that the whole time we thought she was sleeping with her eyes open, she was seizing. We sent her to have tests done and everything came back normal. She hasn't had a seizure since. Sometimes they just grow out of having seizures.

doing the EEG's with this condition are like fishing you can go to the lake many times and come home with nothing then one day it is found.

I am sure they have done all the other test to be sure everything else is where it should be MRI, CAT scans

they have done all the tests. and my sister has even moved to try a new environment. no results. medicine hasnt helped and i guess what they are gonna do next is a video eeg. we know she always has seizures when she has her shots so at 15 months they are gonna hook her up to a video eeg while admitted and give the shots so hopefully they can have it running and pick up an abnormality while she is having a seizure. they have ran some genetic tests on her sodium channels but the take like a month to come back

I dont like talking about this but I had them for a few years when I was younger. It was wierd..I would just be like spaced out for a few seconds. They never knew what caused them but I was on medicine and eventually I just outgrew them.

A very dear friend of mine since the 1st grade has been on epelepsy meds since she was 7. She never grew out of it and I have witnessed 2 Grand Mal Seizures. She also just found out last year that she has MS on top of her epilepsy......  They found 4 lesions on her brain....
