Topic: Do you believe in "Love"?

This is a topic that was in the NY community forum, I figured it would be interesting to see what the majority of the JSH people say.

as for me,
I dont believe in romantic love.
I dont believe in it for the same reasons I dont believe we are born with personalitys or born with talent.

What I mean is, that assuming that you are born 'normal', as in; no defects physically or mentally (ie: autistic or savantism) I dont believe that we inherit things in the mind.
eg: You can draw; experts say this is genetic.
I disagree because it contradicts the perfect creation that is the human mind.

Its a theory of mine that I'd rather not attempt to explain as I'm still trying to work up some examples to explain it better; I find it very difficult to demonstrate how it works with just words.

So please dont ask me to explain my idea.

==========
Romantic love is merely the result of two people coming together whom are on the same page mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Its a freak accident that is based on probablility.

what makes it feel like love is unlikely chain of events that spark intense emotions, the man and woman associate these emotions with each other so when they are with them/see them/ think of them these emotions fire up.

So IF you THINK about it, they only love each other because they RECIEVE (not get as in TAKING but rather being GIVEN) these positive, intense emotions; the love the emotions.
They love each other because they are the source of them feeling GOOD.

Romantic love is a freak accident that almost* everyone feels the NEED to be a part of.

*not self actualized or God-actualized people.

no no, I didnt mean to lump autism and savantism as defects where they cant love, in fact that REALLY need love, its a requirement for their health.

I used them as an example of mental abnormality.

Im getting frustrated trying to explain this properly LOL.

When I mentioned savantism etc, I was talking about how I dont believe personality and talents are inherited: assuming that you're born 'normal'.

laugh I just used them to clarify exactly what I ment by mental defect - they are not in the subject of love.

does that make sense?

I'd rather be in the clouds that be ball'n'chained to the earth.
fact is people dont THINK anymore.
if I was wrong about that, then we wouldnt have sites like yahoo answers where people come up asking questions that they already know the answers to but just cant be stuffed thinking about it OR they dont believe they have the answer.

I would disagree with the premise that the human mind is a "perfect creation," given some of the things that have come out of there in the past few thousand years.

I don't even think you can really qualify it as "perfect" at the beginning, and then blame resultant imperfections on environment, experience, etc., because how is something that's essentially empty at Square One, also perfect? The blank slate is clean and unwritten-upon, but "perfect" is a bit of a stretch to describe "nothing."

But I do think you have a valid point insofar as questioning the concept of romantic love. The problem is, "love" is one of those things that is difficult to pigeonhole enough to come up with a universal meaning that everyone will understand and accept. There's too much subjectivity involved, and people who have (or think they have) experienced "romantic love" are going to swear by (or at) it no matter what anybody tells them.

Love? Meh, all depends on the people/things/expressions/societies.....let the list go on. Love? To me? No. Only for my kids. They are the only ones who could do real damage and I would love them forever and a day. Others I care about, even my megalomaniac 1st ex hubbie. You can't stop caring about your first everything......and all others, well, they leave thier imprints on our hearts and or minds, be it good or bad. Love? No. Only for my kids.
