Topic: Oh Good Grief! School Censors Charlie Brown

There are some days when this anti-Christmas nonsense is enough to make you deck somebody’s halls.

The latest yuletide lunacy comes from Johnson County, Kentucky where the school district has censored an elementary school presentation of “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

The district also ordered other schools to remove all religious references from their upcoming Christmas productions.

At one school, “Silent Night” was replaced with a Christmas version of the “Whip/Nae Nae” song.

Yes, good readers — apparently that is a real thing.

“How do you go from ‘Silent Night’ to the ‘Whip/Nae Nae,’” one distraught grandmother asked me. “We’re not at all happy about it.”

Teachers at W.R. Castle Elementary School were directed to remove the moving scene where Linus shares the true meaning of Christmas by reading from the Gospel of Luke.

Superintendent Tom Salyer confirmed to me that the entire passage was excised from the program after the district received a single complaint.

“We’re not reading that, sir,” Salyer told me. “It disappoints men that we have to do this.”

The superintendent, who said he is a church-going man, said he was simply following the advice of school district attorneys.

He posted this message on the district’s website:

“In accordance with federal laws, our programs will follow appropriate regulations. The U.S. Supreme Court and the 6th Circuit are very clear that public school staff may not endorse any religion when acting in their official capacities and during school activities. However, our district is fully committed to promote the spirit of giving and concern for our fellow citizens that help define the Christmas holiday. With core values such as service, integrity, leadership, and commitment, our staff and students will continue to proudly represent our district as recently demonstrated by our many student successes.”

Allow me to cut through the bureaucratic malarky and interpret the superintendent’s message through the language of Charlie Brown:

“WAH, WAH WAH, WAH, WAH WAH, WAH.”

Baptist preacher Tom Winston has been manning a picket line outside the local high school— hoping the Grinches inside will reverse their ban on the Baby Jesus.

“If you take Christ out of the Christmas play, it’s only a play,” the pastor told me. “That’s the bottom line.”

The district’s religious cleansing of Christmas caught the attention of Alliance Defending Freedom, a law firm that tackles religious liberty issues.

They wrote a letter on behalf of a parent whose daughter is a cast member in the show — urging the district to reconsider the censorship.

“There is no violation of the so-called ‘separation of church and state’ by allowing children to learn about theater and the origins of Christmas through participating in a stage version of this beloved program that contains the same religious elements as the television version,” ADF Senior Legal Counsel Jeremy Tedesco wrote.

“Moreover, students may learn about the religious origins of Christmas as part of school activities without offending the Constitution,” he added.

Pastor Winston said it’s time for people of faith to take a public stand and demand the district do the right thing.

“We should not be backing down,” he told me.

Good grief, America. What’s next — banning The Great Pumpkin from Halloween?

I'm confused. School's can make their students write that there is no god but Allah, but a kid's cartoon is under fire?

Man our country's going down the crapper.

Watch the movie "THX 1138" to see our future under this liberal PC Bullshite!

Made in 1971 by George Lucas, it's like the author saw this future!

Master filmmaker George Lucas ("Indiana Jones," "Star Wars" trilogies) makes his directorial debut in this futuristic sci-fi thriller. Academy Award and Golden Globe-winner Robert Duvall ("Falling Down," "A Civil Action") stars in this story of a computerized subterranean world, where sex is forbidden and emotions have been eradicated. When one computer-matched couple discovers love, this perfectly controlled world is turned upside down.

Silent Night

The origin of the Christmas carol we know as Silent Night was a poem that was written in 1816 by an Austrian priest called Joseph Mohr. On Christmas Eve in 1818 in the small alpine village called Oberndorf it is reputed that the organ at St. Nicholas Church had broken. Joseph Mohr gave the poem of Silent Night (Stille Nacht) to his friend Franz Xavier Gruber and the melody for Silent Night was composed with this in mind. The music to Silent Night was therefore intended for a guitar and the simple score was finished in time for Midnight Mass. Silent Night is the most famous Christmas carol of all time!

Silent Night : Lyrics

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth "

The most difficult thing in the world of human interaction to try to SERIOUSLY deal with, is personal freedom/religious freedom.

Unfortunately, the current day anti-political correctness campaign, as conducted by the Right and the Republican party, has nothing to do with freeing us from Political Correctness at all.

The actual goal, as can be seen in several posts here in this little thread, to substitute THEIR political correctness, for the PC they oppose.

students may learn about the religious origins of Christmas as part of school activities without offending the Constitution

Bullcrap. When a State Authority presents a religious-based play or other activity, ESPECIALLY when it is one-sided as this clearly is, it presents children with the very clear message, that THIS set of beliefs is approved, and others are not.

I know, I grew up with the old traditions. We had all sorts of Christianity based presentations, all the time. NEVER ONCE did this have the result that I, or anyone else, gained objective insight into Christianity. We all learned the same lesson: the school system and other authorities, want us to be good Christians. That America itself, wants everyone to be Christian.

Now: if the school system set up a complete program, which included ALL major and the most popular minor religions, and designed school functions around directly educating the entire student body about all of them, then you'd have a case.

But this Right wing, Republican facade about opposing "PC" by instituting their own alternate PC (see "every politician now MUST wear an American Flag pin, during all public functions, or we will attack you in the media as traitors") , is dishonorable in the least, and dangerous at the worst.

actually this does not surprise me considering that Charles Shutz created this particular Peanuts cartoon with a Christian theme.

Public schools, most anyways have long since stopped referring to Christmas vacation as such an re-named it Winter Break and many schools no longer have a Christmas program of songs.

all religious beliefs are honored and may be discussed in a compare/contrast as part of discussing different cultures and beliefs but one must not be help above any others..

Remember this PC sh@t, on the next Muslim/ Islamic holiday or holy day. They are the one's who want the planet Islamic.

Because if people are offended by Chanukah & Jehovah or Christmas & Christ. Then you DAMN sure better be there SCREAMING that your are offened by Muhammad, Allah & Eid.

PC doesn't work for anyone. No matter which side is pushing it.

That's my main point.

Insisting that State schools sponsor one-sided religious ceremonies and holiday observances, is a form of political correctness, and should be stopped.

Rebelarcher: your inability to understand what I wrote is clear from your response. This is NOT a liberal vs conservative argument. Not if you mean actual conservatives, anyway.

No one is trying to stop Christians from having their holidays. They are only trying to stop them from using State funds and State law enforcement to cause all non-Christians to participate in their holiday celebrations as well.

Apparently you folks don't believe in religious freedom or Americans all being equal under the law.

mightjoe:
yea, yea, we get it, you're a liberal.

Nope, wrong as usual. This is just your favorite phantom accusation to make whenever you have no logical or factual argument against something which you dislike.

Freedom from Government directed religious observations by all people, is a true Conservative value. If you don't support that, it's you are the non-conservative.

Oh snap out of it. Christians are NOT making schools do Christian activities or acknowledge Christmas.

The school should NOT have a pretend or PC Christmas & ALTER a religious holiday by trying to take GOD & CHRIST out of it.
It is an intentional slap in the face & trying to make a Holy day secular.

Can't wait to see this bullsh#t with EID & Ramadan.

thats not religious freedom, it's religious fascism... nobody forced any kid into the play/singing, and nobody forced anyone to go watch it... but yet they cannot express their religious freedoms by having willing participants?

no one forced a Jew, muslim or atheist to go enjoy their play, and none of these people needed to be involved in it in the first place...

Liberals are like ISIS, only they strike at our values from within!

Liberals are like brainless Minions.... they follow orders of the elite, the power brokers...... which they will never be themselves. When the goal is accomplished they will be thrown to the herds like everyone else.

They want to sanitize, sterilize, and serialize us. Remove emotion from all we hold of value like family, religion, our constitution and rights.

They have our voting, banking, travel, healthcare, food and water sources all wrapped up. Now they want our guns and spirits, or souls if you will.

They see half the nation on food stamps as being half way there.... not the problem that it is.

THX 1138

The govt won't stop ISIS because people need a boogey man to control them. If they're not occupied with fear they might worry more about their freedoms, paychecks, families.... and what govt, bankers and corporations are doing under their noses to their nation!

Every shooting will now be because of some radicalized young person(s) because that is the only way they could ever convince people to vote away their own rights.....like the 2nd and 1st amendments... about the only ones left.... then govt will have totally reversed its role of servitude to the people.

Religious fascism? You don't know what fascism is. It CAN'T apply to this.

It was a school sponsored religion based play. That's it. Did they have school sponsored religion based plays for any other religions? No. Just Christian. Therefore claims of "educational purposes" are bunk. And therefore it IS a case of selecting one religious viewpoint out for state approval, and rejecting the others.

If they had instead announced that they were sponsoring a series of performances, each of something that supported a different religion including all the big ones, then you could argue that they weren't using state influence to support only one. But they didn't do that.
