How many here run emulators?
Some here might say "simulators", but, really, I am referring to software that enables PCs to function like other processors. I run the Hercules emulator running DOS/VS POWER/VS Release 34, which is a mainframe operating system by IBM that was utilized mainly by medium-sized business customers. My first job as a computer operator was on such a system: an IBM System 370 Model 125. I do my personal finances on this system. I also run a Hewlett-Packard HP 2000 Access System under emulation. This was a time-shared minicomputer that was popular with educational customers, mainly high schools and institutions of higher education. It is very simple to set up and administer. Most of the HP Contributed Program Library is available. One such program, a Star Trek game program named STTR1 was very popular. It came out shortly after the original Star Trek series left the air and before the show went into syndication. It is to be found on the HP Contributed Program Library tapes. |

I think that I have a CD around here that installs an emulator for some of the old 1980s game consoles (i.e. Atari, C64, etc.) along with a number of associated games. I haven't installed it yet, but I've always wanted to check it out.
I also have an old 1960s-style console TV downstairs that looks somewhat similar to this: ...and I've kind of had it in the back of my head that it might be kind of cool to replace the old tube-style TV with an updated flat-screen monitor/TV, & play those old games on that... Kind of a "man-cave" thing, I guess. |
