A military blimp carrying sensitive monitoring equipment that had been tethered safely above the ground at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Edgewood, Maryland, broke free from its anchored position dragging its dangerous cable tether behind it, according to an October 28 release from APG. The aerostat was under the control of APG’s Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Netted Sensor System and reportedly broke free from its mooring around 11:55 a.m. today. APG reported that the blimp is dragging nearly 6,700 of its tether as it floats freely north of Maryland; but other reports from CNN state that that length of the tethering cable may be exaggerated, albeit still very dangerous. Officials confirmed that the blimp has lost altitude and is still dragging those tethering cables behind it. Officials are asking the public to stay away from the blimp if they see it. The blimp has currently been spotted over north east Pennsylvania and may be on its way to Canada. CBS News in Baltimore reported that the 240-foot-long military blimp is used in Pentagon research and cost $2.7 billion. Much of the radar equipment contained within the blimp has never worked very well if at all. Still, the military does not want the blimp to leave U.S. airspace. The military equipment on board the blimp known as JLENS was designed to provide “radar surveillance and fire control quality data on Army and Joint networks and enables protection from both manned and unmanned aircraft, cruise missiles and swarming boats and tanks,” according to CBS. There are reports of scattered power outages in Pennsylvania, although officials are stopping short of blaming those outages on the blimp. As of this writing, the blimp is still floating, but close to the ground in northern Pennsylvania. This is trending on tw@tter. And there are reports that the blimp is over or crashed in Bloomsberg Pa, near a school & took the power out.. But there are lots of jokes about it. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for my state to the entire country of Canada. but... |

radar equipment contained within the blimp has never worked very well if at all. Self sealing, Kevlar reinforced. 'If', it's anything like the blimp tethered at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. The gubbahmint has been using that one, to spy on Americans, for more than 30 years. |

Not sure whose idea this was, Pentagon has been trying to scrap this program for a while but congress deemed it too important to national security to cut loose. Pun intended. There are many more effective and budget friendly (compared to this albino terd) forms of air defense.
Aberdeens SOP needs to be examined in depth as well. I know F-15s don't fly solo even over US soil but... It's... a frikken balloon!!! They couldn't get a Kaiwa Blackhawk or even a pair of Apache to follow this thing? It was unmanned with exorbitant amounts of radar equipment onboard it could have tracked itself, how much in jet fuel did they waste when Pennsylvania police shot it down with shotguns? $3 billion for two balloons and no deflation capability? WTF. Maybe that's the reason John Boehner was crying, hmmm..... |

WTF. Maybe that's the reason John Boehner was crying, hmmm..... It wasn't air defense. It was classified as 'top secret'. It was for 'surveillance'. After it was the as missing, it was said on one of the top 3 alphabet news channels. Here, most of us just assumed that already, with as all the military bases & installations & home land security. It was almost a sick joke, ' there it is again, wave to the blimp'. *We'd like to take this opportunity to thank Baltimore rioters for our continued lost of privacy & increase air traffic * |
