New information has emerged in the case of a Texas woman whose body was stolen from a casket following her funeral service, with reports the last person seen leaving the funeral home was a man who obsessed with the woman.

Julie Mott died earlier this month from cystic fibrosis and the 25-year-old's body was stolen after her funeral service last Saturday at the Mission Park North Funeral Chapel in San Antonio.

According to an incident report obtained by My San Antonio, police have identified a potential suspect that was obsessively texting and calling Mott before her death on August 8.

The man's name and relationship to Mott were not detailed in the report, but he is said to be aged in his twenties.

Police have identified a male suspect in his twenties they believe may have taken the body of Julie Mott from a funeral home in San Antonio, Texas, at the weekend, following her funeral

The funeral was held on what would have been the young woman's 26th birthday.

Staff members at the funeral home discovered that her body was missing the day after the service, as they prepared to transfer the corpse to the crematorium.

The body was the clear target

Police believe that it was taken within a three-hour window between the conclusion of the service and the end of the business day at the establishment, the New York Daily News reported.

There were no signs of forced entry and no alarms were set off at the home.

The site doesn't have surveillance cameras so it is unclear how her remains were taken.

San Antonio Police Department Sgt Javier Salazar said: 'Whoever did it was pretty daring about it.

'Our No 1 priority, of course, is getting her back to her family.

'A close second is to find out who the person was who did it and bring them to justice.'

Salazar added that police are not ruling anything out and said he had never seen a case like this in his 22 years in law enforcement, according to the New York Post.

'This was not a case of somebody thinking they were stealing an empty casket,' Salazar said.

'The body was the clear target.'
