As mentioned already, it depends on how one defines extremism. Assuming the news definition and common usage, CNN has a good article listing the numbers of various Islamic terrorist organizations (there's a whole other discussion on how the question is wrong since Islam doesn't teach unwarranted violence, but that's another question entirely). The article estimates around 106,000 individuals are members or identify with these organizations. That's a pretty high number, but let's do some high-level number crunching so we can get a better idea of how big that is.

A recent Pew Research Study places the number of Muslims worldwide to be around 1.6 billion (or 23% of the world's population). So doing some basic math, we get that about .00006625% of the Muslim population are extremist.

yea, well, i don't believe that for a minute... i've seen it as high as 15% and as low as 6% in the past... fact is, there's no way of telling the actual numbers, and i wouldn't trust cnn for anything...

You can't arbitrarily assign a percentage amount.

It is difficult to quantify but not impossible.

Just to note: I am speaking about violent extremists as opposed to non-violent extremists. Perhaps your numbers represent total extremists.

just depends on what poll you want to look at...polls are designed to sway opinions, and all polls are slanted to the point they want....

Pigs lives matter!

I firmly stand behind my choice of words and can only hope for further studies whether they validate or invalidate my position. It is an important factor for the public to consider.

Either way, it was a healthy discussion.

Well he can always visit the mosque with a trailer full of pigs, release them into the mosque as a petting zoo experiment.

Oooo, yeah. That will make the mosque uninhabitable for 7 years under Islamic law as it will considered to be unclean as a place of worship.

Oh, I know, maybe just Fedex em' a couple pounds of bacon (unwrapped of course) as a friendly offering of good small farm crafted meat. Oooo, yeah, same problem as option 1.

I took the tulip poll and the results were infinitesimal.

Ya know.... Jews & other people, like Judao- Christian, Seven Day Adventist etc.. ( Kosher) & people that simply can NOT digest it... do NOT eat pork.
But they are NOT trying to stop people from doing so, or having pigs, or trying to dictate & control others.
