So, I guess I'm stupid or the hospital thinks I am, one or the other. Any body in the medical field may be able to tell me, but my daughter went into the hospital in April and I finally got the itemized bill.

There are 13 chgarges @ 32.00 each for 1 damn drug test. That's 416 bucks. Can anybody tell me if that is right or a scam. I have called them and told them I couldn't even think of 13 drugs to test for and I'm from back in the 70's when there was plenty out there!!

She got 7 pills for 187.47!!!!

Damn medical care is getting out rageous!!!mad

Why did she get tested? Did you think they were only gonna test for one thing? If it was for work then they should have paid for it.

No, she went to Vanderbuilt for mood swings and other problems. She was pretty much out of our control while she was there for 5 days. She was diagnosed with some sort of bi-polar disorder.

I would ask them to fax/mail a break down of the substances they tested for......

They are going to review it and send me a statement about it. Takes about 30 days they told me. Well, it took 6 months to get the itemized bill!!!! So we will see.

Yeah USA is the only country in the world with 100% private insurance and this is the result.

Medical insurance, if not provided by employer is extremely EXTREMELY expensive. I am self employed and I do not have medical insurance, because it would really cut into my money...

Here are your options:
1) Refuse to pay but then your credit is shot, and cant buy car, home etc, plus you get harassed by collection agency
2) Ask the mother for 1/2, if she refuses threaten to go to courts for it.
3) Pay the bill
4) Ask them for a breakdown of drugs/services used, and go to another hospital and beg for their prices for such services/drugs.

Well people you voted for republicans instead of those "commie" democrats, you reap what you sow.

Also ASAP that means do it yesterday: CALL THE HOSPITAL AND SAY YOU DISPUTE THE CHARGES, THEN WRITE A LETTER STATING THAT YOU DISPUTE THE CHARGES OF SUCH AND SUCH $$ AMOUNT ON SUCH AND SUCH DATE.

If you dont get it in writing then you have no case and "welcome to collection agency hell" happens.

THAT IS WRONG!!! THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE DRUG TEST COSTED THAT. IT IS ONE TEST AND THEY TEST FOR MANY THINGS BUT THERE IS NO WAY IN HAYDEES THAT ITS THAT HIGH.

thats why that person needs to call AND write the hospital immediately saying he disputes the charges. there is a time limit for that, if that is not done that person is fuc&^d.

I finally got the bill yesterday, 6 months later.

I do have great insurance, they paid 7 grand.

My part is 20%.

I did call the hospital and I have disputed the charges.

I also asked for a financial help form, which I finally got 6 months later. Supposedly they sent it 2 times before.

I do know my options on payment, credit ect........

I still wanted to RANT about it!!! laugh

Thanks for all your replies! bigsmile

I know how you feel about hospital bills, I was in a hospital over night for surgery though and it costed as much for giving birth, near death type of surgery. Any how yeah the bill was a lot but I got it paid even though it took a lot of work and I was out of work for five in a half nearly six months including rehab etc.

So I know how you feel.

Bills sucks.

I am the manager of a large hospital lab and, yes.. the testing does cost that much. We routinely run 6-7 drug classes on our drug screen, thought the physician can request any number of drugs he/she suspects the patient has been taking.
